Dance Dance Revolutions' "Frozen Ray" is an obvious spinning song the moment one hears it. And sure enough, seen more than my fair share of Sailor Moon transformation sequences queued up to the ultimate song of the whirl. Been wanting to do a picture with this character, this theme, and this title for quite a while. Finally went on to actually do it. The Sailor Moon character is my Sailor Quaoar, from one of the planetoids that sit at the edge of our Solar System, and the name she goes by is Ray. As this is a very distant celestial body, the Quaoar is also quite a naturally cold place; hence the title of "Frozen Ray" since I personally come from the land of the puns. This is not her actual transformation sequence, which is a horribly burning flash with the standard transformation pen. Mostly this looks like some bizarre hybrid of her attack.
More or less went after a loose imitation of what is seen in the Sailor Moon Crystal reboot, which goes for star blob things, and these odd comets floating about. The sky box is weird in those sequences, and less lace-based than both the manga and the original show. Other than mostly getting the background in, and dorking with colors, the pose was a pain. Kept redrawing it from a billion different angles, and then settled on something rather simple (minus the fact I did the arms holding the spear in a different manner, since it's fun to mix it up). Was worried this would not fit the page properly, but that is where annoying amounts of bloom come in, since Sailor Quaoar is one of my light users, so can't have a picture without it. Other than that, it's a rather girly image, and it's also a really easy image since it's basically lines, color and some fill.
