Some grapes, some rock videos on the big screen TV, and a little pumpkin ale in a brandy snifter. It's the simple pleasures in life that mean so much. I'm not greedy, though. I feel that the very best things in life are made so much better when shared with others.
Grapes, anyone?

Oh, psh. I invited everyone. I'd love to party with Belle! She wouldn't have to worry about the usual Hollywood party stuff-the strongest thing in his apartment is the pumpkin ale. *Breaks out the Crystal Pepsi & Dinosour eggs* "This stuff gives a much better buzz!" >.>
Look at them yoyos, that's the way you do it!
I'd love to join in with you in your 1950s G-rated symbols of perversity. (Someone told me once that, since in Hollywood you couldn't show sex, they went with "eating grapes out of the bunch" as the most decadently freudian thing they could think of for those bible and fall-of-rome epics. "Arrange a sit-down orgy for forty.")

Grapes (and grapevines) have represented virginity, fertility & prosperity since ancient times. They've also been used by many Christians over the centuries to represent Christ. It only makes sense, then that these symbols would then be twisted in order to be used to represent the corruption of what they stand for. If there's anything about humans I understand most (and this is one of the very few things about humanity I understand) it's how many of us seem to love creating taboos, and how many of us (like myself) love breaking them.
Doubly good point! I'm remembering this book on Kitsch art that I found once, commenting, "If grapes on the bunch didn't exist, Hollywood would have to invent them."
It's simple. Creating a taboo out of something you already don't do is a way of reassuring yourself that you're still great, it's a soul excuse. Creating a taboo out of something you want to stop doing is simply practical (Someone mentioned to me, the kosher and halal prohibitions on pork came about when climate patterns shifted and desertified the land; pigs take ten times as much water per pound of meat as cows do and they simply couldn't support pigs using up what little water they now had).
