I really adore the new Care Bears series, Adventures in Care A Lot. I love the cute anime-ish style, and the voice talent they got for the show blows me away! :D Not to mention it's a cute colourful little show.
Hey, we all have our guilty pleasures!
Anyway, I decided to honour AiCAL with a little fanart. So here we have Share Bear, Tenderheart Bear, Funshine Bear, and Oopsy Bear...who seems to be having one heck of an Oopsy!!
I was going to add Love-A-Lot in there, but well...ever since FC, she's taken to stalking
genecatlow. :D

Couldn't you hook her up with someone she could have for her very own? <=)

not a criticism here but, what is with the infested head look of these new carebears? you draw them well but I just can't get past the heads that appear to have fly larvae in them.
I just thought maybe you knew... like I said, fine art
just creepy... like the littlest pet shop...

I've been following the new series as well, though I've grown tired of it. The new world, compared to the old one, seems alot more shallow and self-interested. There's no more helping children on earth and there's no more cousins. Most of the time the episodes only show a small core of the care bears with only occasional appearances of the others. Where Ooopsy bear should just be an occasional appearance, he's become kinda like the bear to maybe keep the other bears humble where they shouldn't really have to be reminded of that.
Dunno, then again, perhaps too much thought is being put into a young children's cartoon in this time of short attention spans.

Well, you have to remember that the older shows were over 20 years ago, and kids are different now. I look at the show at face value, rather than comparing it to the older shows, and that's one of the reasons I'm able to enjoy it so much. Besides, it's at least keeping the Care Bears in the spotlight, so one can't really complain there. The show isn't for us adults, it's for today's kids. And if anime-ish Bratz like looks and a new format is what it takes to keep kids interested, then I say go for it. Besides, the Dic and Nelvana series have all been released on DVD, and they come with the plush Bears, so kids today can still watch them too.
Regarding the other points you brought up, no the Bears don't visit kids as often as they did in the 80s shows. But they are bringing that element into it again, if you look at the DVDs "Ups and Downs" and "Grizzle-y Adventures". Both are posted on Youtube. :)
As for characterization, I suggest you take another look at the series. Oopsy is one of the main characters yes, but there are many shorts where he either stays in the background, or has a smaller part. And though the core characters are Share, Cheer, Grumpy, Funshine, and Oopsy, the other Bears have been gradually introduced and fleshed out as well throughout the show. Wish, Bedtime, True Heart, Love A Lot, Surprise, and Tenderheart have all been main characters at some point or another, and they do a good job of introducing them slowly, rather than bombarding you with new characters every time you turn around.
Whew. That's a heck of a two cents I put in. :)

Hate to bust ya bubble, but the new series is bastardization of a great series
They changed EVERYTHING we know and love about the franchise
They replace the Care-A-Lot we grown to love with some suburbia of sorts, Funshine is now a boy (for some reason), The Care Bear cousins hardly appear (same goes for Grams, Hugs & Tugs) and the list goes on.
the only episode that that worth watching in this sad excuse of a revival is the Growth Dust episode
