Donell woke up from another dream of the three headed dragon, but this time he did not break out into sweat he seemed more calmed. Although, the part of his adopted father appearing in his dream bothered him a little. He looked over to his room mate, Erikku the werewolf. He was still sleeping peacefully.
“Well at least one of us is having a good sleep.” Donell thought. He went to the window and moved the curtain a little to see that the sun was rising. As he looked around, he noticed there was a forest not far from the mansion. Since he came to the mansion through a portal he didn't get the chance to really see what was around the mansion.
“I'll take a shower then I'll go exploring outside.” He said as he started to undress. He grabbed a towel from his drawer and wrapped it around his waist then went into the bathroom. He turned the water on and set it for a warm like temperature. Once he felt the water was just right; he removed his towel and stepped in the tub. He took a 15 minute shower then he stepped out to dry off and brush his teeth. Once he was done in the bathroom. He stepped back into the bedroom and looked at the time on his phone and it said it was 8:15 am. Erikku was just waking up; he yawned and then stretched his arms and back.
“Good morning Erikku.” Donell said as he was getting dressed.
“Morning,” Erikku said as he was still rubbing the sleep out of his eyes. “What are you doing up this early?”
“I'm going to leave the mansion for a while. There's a forest not to far from here and I wanted to check it out. I should be back in a few hours or so. If anything before it gets dark out.”
“Well ok be careful.” Erikku said as he went back to sleep. Donell smiled at the werewolf then went into one of the zip pockets in his travel bag. He brought out a small key chain that looked like a small blade with a small pistol and shield attached to it.
“Hopefully, I don't need to use this.” He said as he looked at the key chain then put it in his pocket. He walked out of the room ready to explore the woods. As he made his way to the front door, he saw a panda with a black jacket, pants, and shoes.
“Excuse me,” Donell said “Are you part of the staff?”
“Yes I am. The name is Kage. How can I help you?”
“I was hoping you could open the front gates for me. I would like to step out of the mansion for most of the day.”
“Sure no problem. How is your stay going so far?” Kage asked.
“Well it's better than what's going on at home. It's nice and peaceful plus I'm meeting new people so that's always a plus in my book.” Donell said with a smile.
“I'm heading to the security room now. Once I see you at the gates I'll open them.”
“Thank you very much.”
The two went their separate ways and a few minutes passed then the gates were opened. Donell walked out and headed straight for the woods. He looked around and noticed the trees seemed to be dead. He continued walking hoping to find at least one tree that was alive. He kept walking on a straight path and barely looked around as he started to give up hope he heard something or someone walking on the dead leaves.
“Hello? Is someone there?” He asked, but no one replied. He didn't like that. So he looked in all directions until he looked up and noticed a wooden cage had fallen on top of him.
“What the hell?” He shouted as he grabbed the cage trying to break the wooden bars. Out of no where three darts hit his right arm. “Ow what was...” He pulled out the darts and noticed they were poisoned darts. “Damn it. Who ever you are show yourself right now!”
“My my my. A walking great dane. That's a new one.” From behind a dead tree a human male wearing a black hat, a gray trench coat with black gloves that some kind of metal on top of the fingers with black pants approached the cage.
“What do you want from me?” Donell asked as he looked at man who captured him. The man smiled and replied back to him with options.
“I'll spare your life for a few more minutes if you tell me where you came from. If you don't tell me I'll kill you. One less abomination roaming the Earth.”
Donell noticed a sword on the man's hip and came up with an idea.
“How about a third option?”
“I didn't say there was a third option mutt.”
“I know but, what if you and I have a fight with swords. If I lose I'm yours and I'll tell you anything you want to know. If I win you never bother me or any of my kind ever again. Do we have a deal?”
The man laughed and said, “You dumb dog you don't even have a sword let a lone a weapon.”
“That's what you think.” Donell said as he pulled out his key chain and shouted the name “Exia!”
The keychain tripled in size. The blade was attached to a miniature forarm shield that equipped itself on to his left arm, so when Donell swung the blade he destroyed the cage.
“Well I'll be damn your some kind of magic mutt. This is going to one hell of a fight, but tell me something. How do you feel?”
The man knew the poison should be working its way through Donell's system by now. Donell pointed his blade at the man, but his vision started to blur and his body felt heavy.
“I'm fine.” He said as he shook his head and began attacking the man. The human dodged the first few strikes until Donell sliced his hat in half. “Looks like your hat got in the way.”
“That was my favorite hat. You're a dead dog barking!”
The man finally drew his sword and the two began clashing. As they would miss each other in some of their attacks their strikes would slice the dead trees around them. The battle went on for at least an hour and Donell could feel himself getting weaker and weaker. It didn't take long until he was on the defense then he rubbed his eyes when his vision was cloudy. The man appeared behind Donell ready to deal the final blow until Donell started falling to the ground. With one last effort he took one more swing at the man and managed to cut his face.
“Ahhhhh you bastard!” He looked down in rage and noticed that Donell was unconscious. The poison had worked, but at the cost of losing his hat and letting a dog scratch his face. He tied Donell up and dragged him across the ground as he started to head for his base of operation.
“You and me are going to have a nice painful chat when you wake up dog.” He said, but little did he know he was leaving a trail behind him and didn't bother to look back.
