This is really epic looking. Got to admit though, I'm curious about your long story about your spirit guide that you mentioned in said journal; along with any other experiences you may have had. I'm sure other people would enjoy the read too if you ever get the interest to talk more about it in your journals!
I took a bit of drafting in high school and college. I am a CNC machine programmer and operator and design parts and products for the company I work for but actually I rarely use any of my tools. For the most part a pencil and scratch paper works just fine for what I need.
I collect the tools for a number of reasons and yes, they do seem to have a mystical aura.

Especially when you use them. The process is mindless and mechanical, but requires a lot of forethought. It induces a very zen state of concentration and mindlessness. Also the shapes and ornaments of the tools are esoteric to their use in a way that suggests importance and sophistication. It reminds me a lot of religious rituals in those senses.
I was going to guess it's German, based on the machine work. They're masters at working metal, and it shows in tools like these. I've got a bunch of old drafting tools, but none from that make as far as I know. I'll take a look through my collection later. Beautiful pieces.
As for spiritual energies occupying things, count me a skeptic. That's not to say you didn't experience what you described, but rather that I don't experience things like that. For several years, I did a lot of urban exploring. Sitting by myself in the basement of an abandoned mental asylum is a fascinating experience, but I never once had anything happen that seemed supernatural in the least. Creepy, sure. But always well within the realm of normal, for a dirty old building. There does seem to be a vibe you get from old things. Walking through museums, castles in Europe, old photographs. To me it's all your mind interpreting things and making associations and such. But to you, the same thing might be a completely different experience, so I have to stay somewhat on the fence. I'm rambling, but this kind of thing has been on my mind a lot in the last few years.
