The mummy is one of those all time classic monsters that I really love, as is evident by the fact that one of the main characters in my series is one. I've always had a love of the Egyptian look and culture, and while honestly mummies by themselves look more comical to me then anything, the very real darkness and persisting wrath of these figures is honestly quite terrifying if you look into them. I guess that what draws me to them, and it's a massive reason I love Halloween and generally what I do. It's that dual nature. In one light something can be funny and almost comforting, but a deeper look could make it a nightmare.
I originally was going to give this guy legs, just an average mummy but as I drew it I just sort of found myself wanting to say "fuck drawing legs" and I got the idea to have him just sort of fading away into his wrappings. I've never really seen on drawn this way and I really liked it, with his sarcophagus being this miasma into the unknown. I wasn't done intentionally, but it also ended up making him look like a snake, which worked great with the headdress I gave him. All around this is probably one of my favorites of this countdown.
In Purgatory, mummies, unlike the usual depictions of being wrathful are actually very easy going and tend to be the most apathetic of all races, but when you have you brain pulled out through your nose I guess that can subdue anyone... as I'm sure is obvious, mummies have now actual body, because their eyes which are essentially just glowing lights. Instead their bandages form a shell that loosely resembles them in life. Because they soul is tied to their wrappings, they can all move to their will, allowing them to do a great multitude of things. I'm not sure if a fully human like one would ever exist, but if they did it would simply be a case where they've manipulated their wrappings to look that way and would require an amazing strong soul to do so.
