I have to ask, why did this gain such popularity so quickly?

in my honest opinion.. id say its a combination of multiple elements. One would be the character design, the characters though simple in design have a lot of definition to them XD Another would be the story told with in the short span of the song. It offers a great mix of history and conflict between all the characters thats both caught the interest in many as well as has had many ( including my self ) wanting to know more as to how this story will reach its climax or if it ever will get a climax .

There are many more reasons, but each I believe to be more personal and such >>; But then again, this is just my opinion ^^
