Strange Acquaintances
By Deadpooljte23“And don’t come back until you find us a decent guest for the show!”, yelled a surly spinarak.
Chuck Stein was, for all intensive purposes, stressed. Not that this was a new sensation for him. He was in a constant state of distress ever since he began his very own journey of self discovery. He knew that he wanted to accomplish something important. It was the what that bothered him. “ Casper doesn’t need to yell so loud though,” mused Chuck.
“Man,” complained the rhyperior, “I never should have started this stupid podcast.” Chuck needed to find an interesting student before sundown for his dorm run pod cast which he co-hosts with his best friend Casper. Sadly, the show’s audience consisted of two students and the janitor, so Casper sent Chuck out to people watch. And maybe, just maybe, find someone who is interesting and would be willing to go on the show. So far, neither of them had found anyone that fit both bills.
Chuck walked across the quad. He was radiating emo. He knew that no matter how hard he tried, he would never find someone worth bringing on the show. Why even bother? “A pod cast was a stupid idea anyway.” sighed Chuck. Then suddenly, like an archangel floating down to earth in a flaming chariot made of win, a voice called out. “ Why so glum?”
The voice belonged to René Vulpes. Although Chuck didn’t know him personally, he knew about René from talk around the school and was surpised that someone with so many friends would be talking to someone like Chuck. He felt like this was a sign that René as destined to be the next guest on the show. However, Chuck wanted to make sure that René would be interesting enough to gather listeners. “Oh, um, sorry. Do I look upset? I don‘t mean to.”
“No need to apologize. I mean, your not bothering anybody. Let me introduce myself. I’m René.”
“Chuck. Hey, don’t I know you from somewhere?”
“Yes. I am that vulpix who wishes he were a girl.”
“…I was talking about math class.”
“Oh right! You sit in the back next to annoying meowth guy.”
“That’s sid. And your right, he is annoying.”
“Would it be out of line to ask why it was that you were depressed?”
“Not at all. I have this pod cast, see. And although its almost about 2 weeks old, I only have about 3 listeners. So I figure that the only way I would be ale to get any listeners would require an interesting guest host. Sadly, no interesting person would be willing to go on a show like mine.”
“ I see can where your coming from, but I disagree. If your having trouble getting listeners, you should go out and tell the others about your show. Spread the word.”
“That’s going to be a problem. I don’t think I’ll be able to talk to anybody about it.”
“I’m sure you’re just being dramatic.”
“I’m really not. I have social anxiety. I can barely talk to people I don’t know, and I freeze up when I talk to pretty girls. I’m practically autistic. This stigma of mine even prevents me from making friends. There are only two people at this school who will hang out with me.”
“Well, that’s going to change. Say hello to friend number three. I’m going to help you gain the confidence you need to succeed. I‘ll introduce you to some of your friends.”
“Really? That’s really cool of you.”
“It really no big deal.”
“I know. I’m just not used to people being so nice to me.”
Chuck was startled to notice a the girl-boy giving him a big hug. “Well get used to it bud.” said René.
“Um, thanks, René.”
After about a fifteen seconds of the awkward embrace, René released Chuck and began to walk away. “Remember what I said big guy!” exclaimed René a bit too loudly. Oh well, thought Chuck, I forgot to ask him if he would be on our show. Another time. “But hey,” chuckled Chuck, “I made a friend.” For the first time in days, Chuck was smiling. Nothing could ruin his mood, not even the ass-kicking he would receive from Casper when he got back home.
