"Family Tails" - Cover art for paperback
UPDATE (2014-12-15): I fixed some minor details.
Okay folks, I have the FINAL cover art finished, scanned, and here it is! This picture will be on the front outer cover of the paperback version of the book.
Sitting on the couch (L-R): Cormac, Aurora (as a toddler, on Cormac's lap), Sierra, Ron, Chrys Ann, Fionn (as a toddler on Chrysie's lap), and Violet. Behind (L-R): Rosie, Kapik, and Lupina. (Note: the only family member missing is Rosie's future son, Kenneth James -- I still need to draw a portrait of him.) Rosie is bringing out a hot-from-the-oven batch of oatmeal raisin cookies, Kapik is bringing her own coffee ("Kapik" in Inupiatun means "coffee", for those who want to know, and yes, she's a coffee aficionado). Ron is reading a book to the kids while Lupina looks on from behind the couch. On a shelf of the hutch in the background, you can see a tiny picture of Ron and Lupina's wedding photo (I'll get around to drawing that eventually and posting it). That's Ron's hand on Cormac's right shoulder, Sierra has her right hand on her twin brother's left shoulder. On Ron's right shoulder is Chrys Ann's right hand -- this is for in case anyone is wondering who those hands belong to. ;) To the right of Kapik is a bar stool at the counter (there's an architectural name for that little extention of a kitchen counter where 2 or 3 people can sit on stools to eat a snack, but I can't think of it at the moment). The wood cook stove with a cast iron kettle is in the far back. I've tried to keep the background of the drawing in accordance with the floor plan I made for their house. There actually are drapes for those windows in the dining area, but they pull off towards the left and are not in this view (that's to keep them away from the wood cook stove). You can see a little of the deck railing outside, along with the scenery (view is to the west).
Well, at least I now have a picture of (most) of the family, including at least one of the wolves from Atka's pack. :)
Drawn with 0.5 mm mechanical pencil, 6B graphite stick, various blending and shading tools, on Georgia-Pacific "Everyday Copy & Print" paper.
Art, characters, story © 2014 Ronald J. Lebeck (that’s me).
