From all of mine to all you thugs who, under the false guise of supposed religious sanctity, terrorize people and murder helpless police officers lying in the street...
In the words of my generation...
UP YOURS!!
(About the upside down sign... Saffron is a sweet cat and would always be anxious to help, but she's not the sharpest pencil in the box. If you get me.)

It was originally May 20, 2010 and had quite the following, but it failed to really come up again in subsequent years. The person that organized it, was marked for death by Anwar al-Awlaki and had to change her name and go into hiding after the FBI came to her stating it was a credible and real threat.
Just goes to show you the mindset of radical islamists, who take offense to any representation of their beloved prophet. Those cartoons and the South Park controversy from a few years ago are perfect examples of overreaction to something intended for satirical purposes from a bunch of hard line radicals.
Actually, the correct response to this is to take them into custody and try them for 13 murders like common criminals. Let them spout their nonsense in court and humiliate themselves, like Anders Behring Breivik.
Not to be taken 'seriously' or turned into martyrs will be the worst case scenario for them.

You are absolutely right! I think it's wrong to publish cartoons that offend the religious feelings of anyone. But nothing excuses such a thing that we saw yesterday. France is a free country, go on the streets, speak in the media, take legal actions, but accept the freedom of speech!
Those pathetic guys who did that attack most likely only have a vague idea what the Islam is, they just seek a way to give their messed up lifes an importance it doasn't have.
Okay, enough ranting, I hope this makes any sense.

If someone is offended, they don't have to buy the magazine. They can write letters of complaint. Or they can start their own publication promoting their point of view.
They don't have to shoot people. Including one poor guy lying wounded and helpless on the ground.
What I would really like is for the media to stop calling them "religious extremists". They're not defenders of their faith. They're just thugs.
And we should say so.

Did someone ever spit into you mother's face in front of you? Posted nude pictures of your sister on the internet? Took a shit on your grandfather's medals?
Charlie Hebdo "journalists" did all that professionaly for years. They even got paid.
Therefore today I am – Syrian;
I am – Odessite burned alive in Trade Unions House;
I am – Palestinian boy suffocating beneath ruins of my own house in Gaza;
I am – five years old Arseny, torn to pieces by mortar shell launched by Ukrainian army in Slavyansk. Last thing I've seen before I went blind – my mother dying to let me live for six more hours;
I am – cab driver, mechanic, miner, factory worker from Donetsk protecting my family from Ukrainian neonazis invasion;
I am – tortured Guantanamo adbuctee. No lawyer, no trial – my relatives don't even know I'm still alive;
I am – Cuban rotting away in secret CIA prison in a random country. Maybe it is even yours, I do not know;
I am – teenager killed by USA cop without warning, because cop "felt threatened";
I am – one of the innocent French policemen killed on 7th of January.
But I am NOT your fucking Charlie!
Not today, not ever.

You are entitled to your opinion. Freedom of thought is the point here. Even if you (or I) don't agree with it.
Besides, shooting these people wasn't the answer, Hauling them into court for defamation of character was the answer. Shooting just made martyrs of them.

I do agree with freedom of thought. I don't agree that it should be used to mock sensitive stuff. It creates this gap between the cultures, which creates perfect spots for brewing hatred and turmoil. If you want peaceful coexistence, you need to assimilate and integrate, not alienate.
I mean, go ahead, publish a caricature on Holocaust. And then keep publishing them. See how well it goes for ya.
Bottom line - freedom of speech/art/mind is good, but KNOW THE LIMITS.
As for court - IIRC someone actually tried that, and the court "did not see the crime in journal actions". So much for european tolerance i guess.

Actually, I agree. But one party doesn't get to call all the shots. Each party must surrender something in order for true integration to work.
And from what little I've been able to see, Charlie was nasty to everybody. They had the Pope dressed up as a Rio de Janairo Can-can dancer for petesake. That's not only a slap at Catholics, it's a slap at South America, where he was born.. et on
And if the threat of a lawsuit doesn't work, try this. Play the injured party. Argue calmly, but incessantly. Make a facebook page and post hundreds of pictures, letters, tweets and threads explaining how truly distressing this is for you. Most people live in their own little shells and they really, honestly don't understand. You have to explain it to them.
And usually in words of one syllable.
Growling and snarling and making threats just gets everybody mad.

Well... There's always a civil way to end the conflict...
UNLESS
There is a third party who has some benefit from turmoil and mutual hatred and fear.
But, we shall leave that for conspiracy theorists.
That, or higher powers got fed up with being mocked by them.
For now, let's agree that killing people is bad, but one must know where satire ends and offence starts for certain subjects.
Peace?
