A gift badge for Thornwolf, who was kind enough to split her dealer's table with me at FC this year! These badges are watercolor with a little gouache, and black India ink for the background. I am loving how the black ink makes the colored parts stand out. I leave a white border around the edges of the badge by masking it off with artist's tape, and then when it's all done they live in their own protective plastic sleeves.
I'm taking these badges as commissions at the con itself, but also as pre-orders. See my journal for pre-order info!

What type(brand) of materials do you use?
The colors look so rich and vibrant and I need to get some new supplies for FWA
Also how big are these(I think I already know but I'm really just curious)
OKAY END OF QUESTIONS ABOUT ART STUFF, NOW FOR COMMENTS:

I AM READY! *girds loins*
The paper I'm using is 300lb coldpress Fabriano, a high quality heavy textured watercolor paper. My paints are primarily Winsor & Newton (aka Cotman), but I've been adding the occasional tube of Daniel Smith paints to my collection as well. My ink is a black India ink, but the label on the bottle has long since worn off. It's waterproof though, I know that for sure! And my brushes are sable rounds, best for watercolor if you ask me.
ALSO, look into getting a waterbrush! Waterbrushes have a water well where the handle is, which means the bristles are always wet, and you don't need a water cup. They self clean as you paint, and are handy for watercolor on the go.
Each one is 3" X 4", and thank you so much for the kind comment! =D

Thank you! I got a little winsor and newton kit froma friend and got to play around with it some last year at AC( I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT I"M DOING :D) so it's good to know at least I know i can stick with that brand. I'll keep the india ink in mind next time I go a searching too
I actually got a couple of waterbrushes as a suggestion from a friend last year, they are REALLY neat..I definitely need more practice though. I was afraid of piling on too much color too quickly. Also Do they still sell sable brushes any more? Last I heard they got banned..or something in america..or something. Which I'm very sad about because I tried to get one right around the time it happened *cries*
Otherwise Thank you citizen for your very helpful and informative information.

I got the same kit, 12 cakes right? If you're contains pthalo blue, BEWARE THAT SHIT INFECTS ALL OTHER COLORS. I'm very careful to keep it contained, because just a little bit of it on the other cakes will really change the color, and waste a bunch of paint as you try to get it out of there. But it's so pretty, and I love using it. ;___;
I heard the same thing about sable brushes, but I keep finding them all over the place in art supply stores, so I dunno. If you find any, snap them up just in case! I'm due to get a new larger sable round myself, had this same one for about 16 years and it is RAGGED.

Don't worry, with a little care pthalo can be your BEST friend!
Once you really get into this, start looking into Daniel Smith paints. You can order what's called a dot test paper directly from Daniel Smith, which has teeny dried dots of various pigments for you to test. These colors are just so glorious, I had an art-gasm the first time I tried them. Now it's my goal to replace my Winsor Newton cakes with all Daniel Smith, but they are pricey so it's slow goin!

ooooo i'll have to try them..they sound shiny D:
Also I just checked Dick blick and apparently you can still get sable brushes, but they are very regulated and can be hard to get now...Their store says they'll be restocked 1/23 for most sizes, I think it's JUST for the kolinskys sable I think regular sable is still good to go hahahaha

Oh my goodness, that looks excellent! And that's black INK??? The richness of that black just looks crazy good, I'm so used to seeing black in traditional pieces being some type of gray instead, really does give it some wonderful color contrast and depth with the rest of the piece! :3
