While browsing a few pokemon related websites one night, I came across a few garbled tutorial detailing information on how to catch mew in pokemon red/blue.
After doing a little research, I put together what I could find on the subject and opened my emu, and gave it a go (I saw no reason to delete my save game on my gameboy, as I had all 150 pokemon apart from mew! And you needed to restart the game to get it)
So I got to Cerulean and was ready to accept dissapointment as many other 'mew codes' have proven before, however.. The code worked! Its a bug in the game, apparently. Anyway, I thought I'd put together a visual tutorial for people who had the same problem as me to start off with (Garbled tutorials I mean) I know is a few places it runs a bit fast, and I do appologise for that! :P

I've tried many times to get a mew without using a duplication cheat in transfer (which is oh so dangerous to your game and your system, I've had the misfortune to find out) and I've not found any other way to get it. Now, with this, I understand! ^-^!
Thank you so very much for this. <3

Well, I'm not fully versed in gameboy programming, however I read somewhere that it was to do with where the gameboy stores its data in its memory. As you approach the man who you teleport away from, the Gameboy is told that you are going to face a creature, and it stores this in the section where it stores which wild pokemon you're going to fight.
From what I read it sort of half stores it in the memory, because you don't actually fight the man and thus creates the glitch. I've tried doing the trick twice over, but the second time, you end up fighting a Staryu lvl 7 o.o
And now I can't find the wiki where I read this. Gah. Its out there somewhere anyway :P

There you go, scroll past the screenshots of an alternate way to do this trick (o.o? mebbie you could get 2 mews..)
Enjoy :P

well now i never heard it that way before. certainly would be easier than the way i did it. which required you to beat the elite four while still having access to the s.s.anne. and also havint retrieve the keys from the game corner which you can only do after recieving a diploma from the game designer in celadon city(the building where you get eevee)which you only get after completing your pokedex. then returning to the s.s.anne. and using surf to go to a hidden shore where you will find a truck. use the keys (which are for the truck) to get the truck out of the way. and the battle with mew will begin as he is trapped underneath it. at this point if you still have a masterball you can catch him quite easily. ofcourse this takes forever to do. took me 26 hours to get mew that way. and sorry for the long post btw.
Don't apologize ^^ Now that is interesting! Cause I've read all those things in seperate places, but on their own.
Like, Finding the truck was a rumoured way to get mew, getting the diploma was rumoured to be a way too.. I'm glad that after doing all that you got a mew! I may give that a try now! :P

it doesn't always work. the keys a hard to pick up even if you do it right. sometimes it won't let you pick them up even if you did it right. don't know why. as to getting to the truck you will have to be on the s.s.anne and get fly then lose a match to return to a pokemon center without having the ship leave, cuz once it's gone you won't be able to surf over to where the truck is. if you have doubts about the truck being there then just do this and instead of getting the keys save first before approaching the ship then use surf to go off to side where the shore is. you will see the truck there. an alternate way i haven't confirmed as of yet is that you can use strength on the truck to move it but i'm not sure i didn't find that out till after i got rid of red version.
You're welcome! If infact the thanks are directed at me? o.o Um, xP
You battle it at lvl 7, and all it has is pound to start off with, but I think you can load any TM and train it with whatever attack you want.
It learns transform after a few lvls too, but in my opinion thats not a very good move. all fighting fire with fire does is make the battle very very long!

Interesting...I haven't played the classic Blue in a VERY long time, so I might need to dig a bit to find it first, and if I can't I'll see if I can get a used copy. I would use Red to see if this wprks but the save thing on it broke. >_<
Too bad you can't transfer Mew to the newer games...then you wouldn't have to GameShark (Or in Emerald's case, attend a certain Nintendo Event) it into the game. I would've loved to own one legally, and not in the way anyone would suspect. =P

Yah? If I'd have known that, I might have kept my GBA SP and Pokemon Sapphire, I really thought the public's interest in Pokemon had faded, but I didn't want to get rid of my GBC and Pokemon games ^^
Are you sure you can't transfer from Red - Fire red/Emerald? I thought it was possible to transfer creatures between Gold/Silver/Crystal and Fire Red/Leaf Green/Ruby/Saphire etc, and I think it was possible to transfer them from Red/Blue to Gold/Silver/Crystal? Problem is though, getting your hands on a spare GBA, Link lead and a copy of all the games you need :P But you'd only need one of Gold/Silver etc. just as a middle-man :P

I don't think they should because all the 1st and 2nd Gen, except Celebi, are obtainable in the current games.
Most 1st and a few 2nd Gen is obtainable in Fire Red/Leaf Green, Most 2nd Gen is obtainable in Pokemon Colosseum, and Mew is obtainable in Emerald.

Ok. Those who talk about the truck thing. Apparently that was prooven false, and such. i havent seen any pics, saave for one jpg that was prooven to be a hoax. This tutorial is nice, but where did you get the info for THIS one? The one I knew of was past the nugget bridge, with ANOTHER trainer. On the road to Bill's House. Then you do the same pause thing and such, or something else, I think... Then fly to lavender, and meh... I forgot that procedure or something... Hmmm. Well, still, great tuturial, a full recording of it, to possibly remove any doubts of this being false. Well, chaosdragon, out!
Just finished trying this out and at first it didn't work, but that was because I had already done the battle with the trainer that the flash showed. If you don't do it with that trainer in the flash, you'll have to fight another and then it makes you fight either Cubone, Staru, or Nedoqueen depending on the trainer you fight. If you follow the flash just like it shows, it is totally possible. Anyone want screenshots? :D
From the looks of things, I would think that it might be 'beta testing codes', glitches perpusfuly placed into the game so that beta testers can see the full range of pokemon, even those not technicaly available in the game. You've spiked my intrested with this, I'll have to do some reserch.
^_^ When i was doing Tournaments (Before Silver and Gold came out) there were ALOT of ppl with the Mew. At first it was a status symbol to have it and then after a while; everyone had it.
Now with Action Replay- you dont need to go looking for legendaries....just make them like my Deoxys, shiney Dialga and shiney Palkia....=P Im working on Regi Gigas, Shaymin and Dark Rai

actually theres one still unconfirmed rumor that Ive heard to this day hasnt been proven yet in the game. They say if you play 1000 hours IN GAME, right at the moment that it hits 1000, you'll get a screen message saying the S.S. Anne has returned from it's year long cruise, and then you can rebattle all the trainers who have super freaking buffed up pokemon, like in their 70's and crap, fought one guy who had a level 98 Muk and a level 99 Snorlax. But after that you go talk to the captain again, he doesnt say anything though and just says hi and stuff, the same stuff he said before they set sail, without you having to help him feel better again, then you leave and go back to the hidden cave that you need to beat the elite 4 to enter, and you'll find a note where mewtwo was, read the note, blahblahblah, and then go to articuno's island, and in the middle of the island is mewtwo
