Catching Mew in Pokemon Red/Blue for the Gameboy

While browsing a few pokemon related websites one night, I came across a few garbled tutorial detailing information on how to catch mew in pokemon red/blue.
After doing a little research, I put together what I could find on the subject and opened my emu, and gave it a go (I saw no reason to delete my save game on my gameboy, as I had all 150 pokemon apart from mew! And you needed to restart the game to get it)
So I got to Cerulean and was ready to accept dissapointment as many other 'mew codes' have proven before, however.. The code worked! Its a bug in the game, apparently. Anyway, I thought I'd put together a visual tutorial for people who had the same problem as me to start off with (Garbled tutorials I mean) I know is a few places it runs a bit fast, and I do appologise for that! :P

Thank you so very much for this. <3
I'm glad I could help! :)
From what I read it sort of half stores it in the memory, because you don't actually fight the man and thus creates the glitch. I've tried doing the trick twice over, but the second time, you end up fighting a Staryu lvl 7 o.o
And now I can't find the wiki where I read this. Gah. Its out there somewhere anyway :P
There you go, scroll past the screenshots of an alternate way to do this trick (o.o? mebbie you could get 2 mews..)
Enjoy :P
Like, Finding the truck was a rumoured way to get mew, getting the diploma was rumoured to be a way too.. I'm glad that after doing all that you got a mew! I may give that a try now! :P
But to make things easier, use the Master Ball cheat.
You battle it at lvl 7, and all it has is pound to start off with, but I think you can load any TM and train it with whatever attack you want.
It learns transform after a few lvls too, but in my opinion thats not a very good move. all fighting fire with fire does is make the battle very very long!
Too bad you can't transfer Mew to the newer games...then you wouldn't have to GameShark (Or in Emerald's case, attend a certain Nintendo Event) it into the game. I would've loved to own one legally, and not in the way anyone would suspect. =P
Are you sure you can't transfer from Red - Fire red/Emerald? I thought it was possible to transfer creatures between Gold/Silver/Crystal and Fire Red/Leaf Green/Ruby/Saphire etc, and I think it was possible to transfer them from Red/Blue to Gold/Silver/Crystal? Problem is though, getting your hands on a spare GBA, Link lead and a copy of all the games you need :P But you'd only need one of Gold/Silver etc. just as a middle-man :P
Most 1st and a few 2nd Gen is obtainable in Fire Red/Leaf Green, Most 2nd Gen is obtainable in Pokemon Colosseum, and Mew is obtainable in Emerald.
hmm, now, I'd say take full acvantage of the softboiled TM that one guy has, because I learned early on that recovery moves are VERY useful
Now with Action Replay- you dont need to go looking for legendaries....just make them like my Deoxys, shiney Dialga and shiney Palkia....=P Im working on Regi Gigas, Shaymin and Dark Rai
that website does not lie and everything on there is correct
