This is one of my biggest ideas. Now I know there are some people who might not agree on this, but I have always thought some of our beloved dragonlike/dinosaurlike characters had to come from somewhere. I mean, there is more to than what meets the eye, or what the creators have stated. I've even thought up of a backstory to how these four (the first dino-dragons) came to be, which I might do and upload someday. The short synopsis of the story is that several breeds of dragons interbred with dinosaurs at a certain point during prehistoric times, and successfully conceived four new breeds that would forever change and revolutionise the dinosaur and dragon species. These are following:
- American Dino-Dragon: Better know as the Charizard, they are the foremost of the dragon hybrids. While they originated in the United States, they would eventually become prominent worldwide like most of the other breeds. They greatly resemble European dragons, but tell-tale traces of their dinosaur ancestry remain, particularly when they're young (Charmander and Charmeleon forms). One distinctive features of this breed is the flame on the tip of its tail (indication of their dragon heritage). They were conceived through the interbreeding between the Monstrous Nightmare (a type of wyvern that can engulf itself in flames as a form of defence, hence the dino-dragon's tailflame) and the notorious Tyrannosaurus Rex (and possibly raptors). As a result, Charizards are such proud and powerful creatures.
- Koopa: This breed is one of the most unique as it is not an actual dino-dragon. The Koopas resulted from the interbreeding between a race of turtle-like dragons with the head of a lion and the Surians (a type of Eastern dragon that reside in the United States), resulting in the Koopas. Like its Charizard cousin, the Koopa originated in the United States (specifically in southern regions). There is considerable confusion, however, because this breed shares the same name as its more turtle-like counterparts. The Koopa's distinctive features are its heavily armoured and spiked shell, its vaguely mammalian face, and a mane that varies from one Koopa after another. One of the most well-known Koopas of today is King Bowser.
- European Dino-Dragon: This is possibly the only breed that isn't draconic in appearance. The European Dino-Dragon, also known as Yoshi, is very dinosaur-like, and it is widespread all over Europe, due to its lineage with the Compsognathus, the world's smallest dinosaur, which would interbreed with the world's smallest dragon, the Terrible Terror. Needless to say, out of all the dino-dragons in the world, Yoshis would be the smallest, with the average adult reaching around 3 feet (approximately 100 centimetres) tall. Yoshis are also very playful and curious, and come in a variety of colours. While Yoshis are omnivorous like most dino-dragons, they preferably eat fruit.
- Chinese Dino-Dragon: Last, but not least, is the Chinese Dino-Dragon, also known as the Tyranitar. Little is known about its draconic ancestry, as that dragon ceased to exist, though it is possible that it might be the same dragon that would eventually become the Salamence species. The reason for this speculation is that both Salamence and Tyranitar go through metamorphosis when they're young (Bagon and Larvitar), in which they're in like a cocoon (Shelgon and Pupitar) in their middle stage. The Tyranitar's dinosaur lineage is from the Qianzhousaurus, the Chinese equivalent to the T-Rex, hence being native to the mountain regions of China and Mongolia. The Tyranitar is particularly known to greatly resemble the legendary monster Godzilla, and it is one of the strongest of the dino-dragons.
I hope this is interesting to read, even if you might have different opinions on these guys. Feel free to comment and like.
