I had problems with Jake digging in his food bin which is attached to the side of the cage. He'd still scatter the food outside the cage. I fixed that by attaching sheets of plastic canvas with zip ties cut to size. Doesn't have to be tall- just tall enough to keep the food from flying out. Since then the area is much easier to keep clean.
