Lord Laeron. You stole my crew, broke my ship, tried to take my life and then sent me to prison and taken the life of two great friends… When will you leave me alone?
I pack up my belongings in a bag and go in the direction of the hangar, leaving my house and the corpses of my friends behind. Burying them right during the day would drag too much attention on me. My whole body still hurt, but at least my wounds are closed.
My airship is still in the hangar, there is another ship there too. I open up the gate and make a checkup of my own ship. It doesn't look different than the last time I left it. I leave my bag in the captain's cabin and notice something odd. Focus… I take out my gun; someone is nearby…
- I know you're there. Show yourself!
A blue kobold gets out from under the couch. He raises his arm and turn around to show that he's unarmed.
- Who are you supposed to be? And what are you doing here?
- I'm Backus Eastwind. I'm used to be an Engineer at the factory, but they fired me recently. I'm trying to move somewhere else. So I hide on this airship, carefully waiting.
- You were working at the factory? How can I be sure you're telling the truth? By asking HQ? You look more like a cutthroat, waiting for his target to drop his guard.
- B-but, I'm telling the truth. I just want to work again.
- Enough with you. I could end your single life right now and no one will know.
I tap the gun against his forehead. Backus is looking at me with fear. I wait… and lower my weapon.
- I could end you right now, but I won't. I need new crew members for this airship and you could be useful.
- T-thanks. I-I don't know what to say.
- You may not, but I know what you'll have to do. Clean up the mess you're done. The floor is all wet. There are extra clothes in my bag, wear them for now. I'll power up the engine. Meet me on the deck when you'll be done.
I leave Backus behind to walk to the engine room. Just need to ignite this device… and try another time to hear the motor running. The engines are working. I walk to the deck. Backus is waiting for me at the commands.
- You look better now. Are you ready to move on?
- There is nothing else for me there.
- Good, let's leave this place. We're going further to the North. I got friends there. Maybe one or two will be able to provide us assistance.
I turn the bar and the airship slowly begins to move forward until we get out of the hangar. Backus go on the side of the deck to look down. There is an artificial lake, just in case an airship crash at the opening of the hangar. We're going up in the sky until we can see the city behind us.
- This baby can still fly right. It will take about three hours before we reach the next city with a hangar. Are you okay Backus?
- Yeah, I am. I just never have been in an airship before.
- In many ways, it's like a ship that goes on the air instead. It's faster, but the fuel is costly.
- I'm not surprised. Could I ask you something… Captain?
- What do you want to know?
- What is the name of the Captain?
- You can call me Ashio.
- It's nice to meet you, under different circumstances now.
- Well, the last few days were quite… Mmm… Mouvementés.
We travel by air for an hour or so. Backus is sitting on the front frame while I maneuver the ship. Backus seems to have noticed something.
- There is a ship going in our direction from the side.
- Really? It's odd. Is there a flag on the ship?
- Negative.
- Okay, I'll turn on the megaphone
I press two buttons on the command panel and speak through the mike.
- You're getting too close to our ship, please change your direction. Vous êtes trop près du vaisseau, changez de cap s'il vous plait.
I wait some time, and then the other ship answered.
- Nous prenons possession de votre cargaison. Si vous coopérez, vous aurez peut-être la vie sauve.
- Nous n'avons pas de cargaison, passez votre chemin!
- Alors je n'aurais aucune pitié. Fin des communications!
The other ship is still flying toward us.
- Who are those guys Ashio?
- They're pirates…
