Now that Kass is finally out of the room, Ran swoops in to sample the new "research."
Like the Val Salian Regional Field Guide, this is the first of another type of comic; Kass' research notes, which will mostly be paired with illustrations of the aspect of life as a yinglet that is being written about.
Also, apologies for being a bit slow lately, content-wise; some very bad people at Techland made a game called Dying Light which has demanded my attention in amounts and ways that only a new Elder Scrolls game can. This thing came right outta nowhere and hit me HARD. But in a good, only semi-masochistic sort of way.

That signature title had me laughing out loud. And some great exposition, especially with the intense feeling of vulnerability. Really good read.
Also damn it man, don't be sneaking into people's rooms when they're gone. Do you want to make Kass more paranoid and suspicious?

Canonically, Kass has spent the last day and a half doing nothing but that, becoming extremely irritated by his new handwriting difficulties to the point that he made it a priority to perfect it, and/or this is the "cleaned up" version that Ran transcribed from Kass' scribbles.
Non-canonically, bad handwriting really starts to wear on the average reader's eyes and patience after a few paragraphs. :P

It's commonly called "identity death" in TF circles, and most people agree it's a bad thing to happen to someone. If you wish to be a rabbit, and the genie changes you into a rabbit mentally as well as physically, well, it's not really you. You might as well have been killed and a rabbit dropped where you stood. This is decent for a story meant to come to a bad end, but not so good otherwise.
Yeah, that can get complicated right quick. Now that we know the continuous sense of self/memories/ego/etc is contained in the brain rather than residing in the body itself and/or a soul-like construct, it's pretty clear that a loss of that information is essentially the loss of that person. The "new" personality might have the same body and some of the same mental tendencies as the previous "inhabitant," but it's not the same person in any way that we consider important.
In a story, that could allow for some interesting parallels between the old and new personality, but that's essentially a story of two people, rather than the progression of one.

Pffff, hahaha! I shouldn't laugh and all but the jaded way he expresses his state just... tickles me so. I feel the need that I do offer my sympathies with Kassen. Flesh is one thing to loose but one's identity is really asking too much. Here is to hoping he can adapt or recover! :o
It helps(?) that Kass and Elim are already pretty jaded from their whole war experience, and are familiar with losing everything and starting over. Given, they still started over with their set of adult skills, knowledge and a strong sense of self, adding a new element to struggle this time.
Oh, I'm pretty much all PC these days. On one hand I'm a bit annoyed that there isn't more online matchmaking between PC/consoles, but the keyboard/mouse combo does give most PC users an unfair advantage when it comes to movement (plus it's easier to alter files on the PC versions), so I can understand the developers' decision.
That's some totally cool attention to detail! You gotta imagine what it's like to be a yinglet. The size, skinny limbs, plus the length of those limbs must put minimal limit on how much stress can be placed on on the bones. Add to that how much calcium is in a yinglet's diet, it's a recipe for disaster. Kass' is going to need all the help he can get. This will be a true test of adaptability to the extreme. Forced to rely on others.
Aye, that's the big one there. Evan after losing everything once before, Kass just got jaded and sarcastic about things in general, and was able to rely mostly on himself and hide his struggles. Though he wasn't much of a leader before, he kinda took on that role among his friends because he seemed so self-assured.
Now, that protective layer of insulation has been stripped away, and his vulnerabilities made plain for all to see. The idea of not being 100% self-reliant is one of his biggest fears, and is hitting him even harder than his physical transformation, though he may not be fully aware of that yet.

Somehow, I don't think Isher would mind being Kass' body guard. True, she'd rather be guarding his male human body, but I think she might find his need for protection stimulating(?) enjoyable? endearing? (Can't think of the right word...) Aside from all the stress and the worry of failure that such responsibility would bring on, that is!
Man, there's so much you can do with prose format, especially when it comes to getting inside characters' heads. I would be tempted to keep this going for several pages, but it can be pretty jarring to be reading a comic, then be presented with a text-only short story that's necessary to read in order to understand the comic itself. So, I plan on keeping these condensed and to the point, and if I ever do go the short story route, I'll make sure it will add lots of flavor to the setting/characters, but not be necessary to read in order to follow the main plot.
The thing about tongue licking a prey to death by shame made me laugh but thinking on it I can only get one other idea about what Kass might be able to use it as if I guess right. Won’t say here what I haz in mind but I say girl, girl. Not sure you understand really but I don’t plan to tell here.
hehehe hahahahah HAHAHAHA XD
man that poor poor Kass. Sounds like he needs new friends so that he has more people to feel safer around like a child that seeks out new friends so that the world isn't so intimidating.
I have one that makes most of the PC's in my fantasy games cringe when they hear he's around I'm sure a very angry overly protective Barbarian that really only works with a Barter system would get along well with Kass, and Ragnar loves protecting females, though generally of a species he knows is female normally ^^;
But that didn't stop him from saving a small female from the group with his Earth Shaker (see,... just not on the receiving end, Large sized war hammer)

He does have a very large, intimidating protector to hide behind! ...She just has major self-confidence issues and fears confrontations. :P
And yes, it does take some bravery for a yinglet to stand up to a human, since their evolutionary psychology screams at them, "If it's bigger than you, then it's almost definitely going to eat you; run, run!"

What people DON'T actually realise is... a TRUE warrior doesn't die until he has been shamed... This tells me the Scavs know a warriors TRUE weakness... Shaming them to death!

I find it interesting to note how often he refers to himself as a scav. It's like this whole experience has soured his view of himself and other yinglets.
I was hoping for Ran's reaction after reading this. Kass is really struggling. Though, when reading this, I don't read it like Kass has a depressed outlook of his predicament but more like a sarcastic, cynical view. Only at times (when discussing his vulnerability) does he sound worried.
I doubt Ran will step in, however. He probably doesn't want to interfere as he's only trying to study Kass; he'll let him figure it out on his own.
