Collodion on glass - half plate.
Playing with flash and wet plate. It took 30 pops of a 400ws flash to get a decent exposure. No use for anything other than very still life.

This does look kinda steampunk-gothic. I remember a twilight Zone episode when I was a kid that had some small totem like this in a brief shot. It gave me nightmares.
What would happen if this was made with a longer exposure with more affordable lighting? Or would there be an issue with the colldion drying too quickly?
I got a Graflex light saber and some #22 press flashbulbs that would light that fuzzy right up...

I don't remember that Twilight Zone and I thought I had seen them all.
A magnesium flash would work, but I'm not sure what the distance would be. I'd end up wasting a bunch of bulbs before I got the right exposure. This weekend I'm going to test a 1k watt flourescent rig. I'm guessing I may be able to get exposures less than 20sec. The problem there will be the cold. My studio is an unheated garage.
