This is just so cute, as usual, and I appreciate little details like the subtle gradations of color in the background that make it look convincingly underwater. You know, I've never seen a picture of yours I didn't like, and I don't even usually like manga/anime style because artists usually use it as an excuse to be lazy with detail, composition, color, etc, but you take it above & beyond . . . it would be great to see your stuff animated somehow. "My Little Sea Slug" LOL
BTW, on the same wavelength about gender assumptions, reality filters and all that. I've been reticent on herm characters for that reason, and being afraid people will think it's a nasty fetish thing with me.

I do realistic and other stylized art too, though anime/manga stylings work really well for many sea-creature mer characters, especially the sluggies of the sea. xD
Androgyny and things that challenge people's assumptions about gender are really fun to depict, as there is a huge variety out there that may people are blind to. It doesn't have to be connected with sexuality at all, and certainly not the 'furry norm' of hermaphroditic art... so go for it and stick it to 'em. I hear you though, the oversexed distorted and sometimes disgusting stereotypes here often ruin it for those with more wholesome reasons. Despite my seaslug chars being hermaphroditic, it isn't a stressed characteristic nor does sexuality have anything to do with it, it is just nature. Plus, I find a single composite, unified gender much more appealing than divided segregated ones that are half as effective, or less. 8D

*nod nod nod* I agree. I haven't seen anything of your work that would be considered overty sexualized, in contrast to most labeled herm art here. I usually put it down to many of the artists being teenagers, and naturally being 1. overly interested in sex and 2. getting a contrarian thrill out of drawing something "naughty". Also agree with the unified gender, which is similar to what I did for my trolls - although, being me, they're ugly and awkward and vicious instead of cute, like yours LOL
