Yep this place lives up to hype unbelievably. One of the best steaks I ever had

Aaaah! I was there once! It is within walking distance of truck stops! I wish I could go again...

Besides big, good, inexpensive steaks, they have some really good beers there, too. I had a Palo Duro Pale Ale, and to this day I've been trying to find another beer like it. (I don't like bitter, hoppy stuff). I like to describe it as kinda like Corona, but much better.

Many times over the last few years I've wished I had a reason to end up in Amarillo again, just for this.

Still one of my favorite stops on the south route (mostly old US 66). Three nights out from home to LA without killing myself - Fort Wayne, Springfield MO, Amarillo, Flagstaff and finally, LA.

Most of the people who have ate the steak were thin people.

Where do you get that from? I know i read that some were little old ladies, but I would think most would be pretty good sized.

Well, I take that back. In the early years (before the 80's) most people were under 200 pounds. Most people who do it now are over 200 pounds.

I've seen the list. In fact I was looking for Andre on there last night....just skimming names. I've never taken the time to look more closely. It is a fact though that some thin people seem to be able to do it just fine. Me, I go about 180 and my ability to eat is so small that I take a doggy bag home 90% of the time when I go out to a restaurant. I just can't eat much at a time. Got a bad tummy.

I used to live in Amarillo, TX, but never went to that restaurant.

I lived there for 8 years. Only went to the Big Texan once. Did NOT try the 72 ouncer.
The steak I had was great though.

Anyone know where the saying "Everything's bigger in Texas" originated? Thinking of how Alaska is bigger than Texas, but nobody says "Everything's bigger in Alaska."

We from Alaska do rub it in when we hear people from Texas saying how big thing are in Texas

Walmart has a policy letting people park and sleep overnight in their parking lots, and use their bathrooms in the morning, it's generally considered safe to do so.

I've parked there more than a few times. perfectly safe and no one ever bothered me even with the widows open on my big truck.

now, up the street at the T-n-A truckstop, that's a whole different story!

if you park at the truck stops they have a car that comes by every hour to pick drivers up and drop them back off, too! Free!

Finally figured out that while the freeway route is a little longer, it's actually faster due to being able to go 80 in the 75s rather than 60 in the 55s and slowing down to 30 for every town (shoutouts to hooker and tyrone oklahoma, haha)
