Here's Captain James Daugherty, the commanding officer and pilot of S.F.S. Nightwing, SLG-78, attached to squadron VP-307, 6th Space Fleet. James is the great-great-great grandson of MCPO Ron Daugherty (USN, Ret.) and Lupina Daugherty, via their son Cormac, of the original "Family Tails" story. James is a 6 ft 4 in tall "near human" -- he looks mostly human, though he has wolf G.E.L.F. in his ancestry, as can be seen in his lupine eyes, eyebrows, and slightly pointed ears. He has a couple of other traits, such as greatly increased sense of smell, hearing, and stamina, and teeth that are more wolf-like than human. James starts out in "Daggers of Darkness - Into the Black" as being the mate of CT1 Lilly Donnelson, his second cousin once removed, and Cmdr Tanya Dvoretsky, though later they add Lt. (j.g.) and Moira to their "pack" (family). He is shown here in his "combat flightsuit", which is different from the usual flightsuit-style coveralls that is the usual "uniform of the day" for his crew (he wears these when he flies the shuttle during the raid on the Wurnak Da'i base and rescues the captives).

James is an excellent pilot -- he earned the call-sign of "Wildman" during the R'Hinsa Campaign for flying his PCG upside-down through Demon's Canyon while playing Wagner's "Ride of the Valkyries" as he blasted his way through a R'Hinsi stronghold (he reputededly "flipped the bird" at the R'Hinsi through the cockpit window while doing so) to drop Special Warfare team-Two lead by the then Captain Kenneth J. Donnelson (Lilly's uncle, now an admiral and the head of JSOC - Joint Special Operations Command, and the "boss" of the scout ships), whose team included Sylvia Stewert. James has high scores in certain psi talents, particularly in telepathy and intuition. One other unusual aspect that James has inherited, is that he's a "G.E.L.F. magnet" -- female G.E.L.F.s tend to be particularly attracted to him (and he to them).
