Chiptune - Mega Man & Bass - Museum (obsolete)
Also: MIDI version, MIDI MP3 version, 2A03 chiptune MP3 version, MMC5 chiptune MP3 version
(EDIT: This version is obsolete. A newer MMC5 version is now my preferred full version.)
So I decided to take this on as a Konami VRC6 chiptune. :3 Even after I finished arranging all the notes, it took a while to tweak it so the loudness of instruments were relatively balanced.
What I'm most proud of though is the arpeggios for the keyboard chords. Anyone who has fiddled extensively with FamiTracker knows how easy it is to make arpeggios sound very, very ugly. So I didn't use the built-in arpeggio controls. Instead, I defined no fewer than 13 different keyboard instruments, each differing only in the arpeggio settings. These arpeggios are a mellower 20 Hz instead of the ugly-sounding 60 Hz of the built-in arpeggios. Additionally, these arpeggios start from the highest note and proceed downward, whereas the default arpeggios start with the lowest note. The result is reasonably pleasing to the ear, I think.
Also, I should note that when I uploaded my MIDI and MIDI MP3 versions, I incorrectly credited this song's composer as Akari Kaida. She did do a lot of the game's music (and it's pretty good), but this particular song was actually done by Naoshi Mizuta. It was an easy mistake, as it has a certain soft jazz style very similar to what Akari Kaida is well known for.
