Games I have been playing, part 6
Holy crap here's a comic I meant to finish like five months ago. And in all that time I forgot what I wanted to say about all of these games.
Tales of Graces f: I really felt like this game wanted badly to skewer the whole moe trend, with its main character abandoning his family and responsibilities out of desperation to be a protector for a girl who didn't appear to need one, but someone must have realised that was the entire target audience for Tales games, so it wasn't allowed. And then it eventually just threw its hands up in the air and said 'fine, fine, just have an environmentalist parable', just like Vesperia. Fun game, though. Great subsystems.
Vagrant Story: I've been on a Yasumi Matsuno kick ever since I picked this up. You can probably expect a Tactics Ogre panel in the next comic, when I finish it some time in 2017.
Dragon's Crown: With
uk.Temperance,
FuramiT, and
Marderschaden. Yeah, I know, I know, but it's really fun. It helps that I have a basically bottomless appetite for scrolling beat-em-ups.
Alundra: I maintain that Alundra is the secret best Zelda. I've definitely got a soft spot for goofy Working Designs localisations, though.

Alundra is the only game I have ever returned. :|
I prefer Ookami as my secret best Zelda game. But we've had the Alundra/Zelda conversation before. XD
Odd, that my favorite Dragon's Crown characters were the Amazon and Elf, and I ended up playing Support Food Generating Sorceress more than anything else.
Vagrant Story is bosstastic. And hard as nails. And so easy to fuck up unless you have a good selection of gems to make your weapons actually hurt shit.
PARASITE EVE NEXT!

PARASITE EVE NEXT!
I'll have to think about what I'd want to do with Parasite Eve. My clearest memory of it right now is having to fight that marathon of a last boss three times because I was an idiot.
"Huh, so what happens if I run up to this blob instead of running away? Does it just kill me instantly and make me redo the ... oh."

Definitely an awesome battle system. My bf and I played on progressively harder difficulties (as soon as we could unlock them, since you couldn't start off like that) and we were able to do well until they started bursting out the... Mystic Artes, I'm gonna call 'em, cause Vesperia's my favorite game EVER.
They were Mystic Artes, yeah. I spent most of the game on Chaos difficulty also, because Demon's Souls broke something in my brain and I can't enjoy games that aren't killing me constantly anymore.
Who did you guys play as? I jumped around a lot, but mostly stuck with Asbel and Pascal. Pascal's a blast. I wish I had someone to do multiplayer with sometimes.

Morokite played as Asbel and Pascal most of the time, depending on the needs of the fight. I was Sophie and Cheria. Chaos wasn't too hard until we started fighting those ghost-things in the ruin area. They just fucked Cheria up SO badly!
Did you notice the AI's tendency to pressure healers? I thought that was REALLY cool. None of the other games really did that. It made everything a lot harder when you couldn't simply healbot. It's the main reason I used Sophie over Cheria~ Spot healing plus decent melee allowed for really quick rezzes!

I didn't notice that! I thought I was just kind of a lousy healer. I mean, I definitely was. I almost never played Cheria outside of soloing in the coliseum, because my party always died very, very quickly when I tried.
Man, now I want to play some Tales again. Maybe I'll finally start on Xillia.

Better be Rita if we ever play together. I usually bounce around and try out every character, but I definitely clocked the most time by far as Repede.
I cooked so much dog food, too. I was desperately curious what kind of skit I would get for mastering a recipe, but it was a followup to a skit that wouldn't be opened up by the plot until much later, so I mastered turning three or four different recipes into dog food by the time I got there.

B-but Gale Dog ;~;
Repede is such a fun character!! More games should give me animal characters I can play with. My first time playing, I was so shocked! I thought it'd be like Noishe from Symphonia. I was just waiting for them to reveal he was a monster or could talk, but nope! He's just a dog who isn't quite a dog! He's Repede!

A long, looong time ago when I thought I might use Gavin for some kind of roleplaying, I had him pegged as some kind of wind mage who uses his wings to generate breezes for spellcasting. Basically taking the element he could use most effortlessly out of abject laziness.
