A month had passed since the wonderful day out Pint and Bucky had shared with their friend, Fall the Pegasus. The trees had now lost all of their leaves and the warmth in the air was slowly being replaced with the forthcoming chill of winter.
“Why do toys have to be so expensive?” asked Pint as he looked into his saddlebag’s wallet.
Bucky shrugged as he said, “And we raked so many yards, too.”
Pint sighed as he closed his wallet and said, “I suppose we could’ve afforded it if we gave up our visits to the Flip and Scoop.”
“Do you think Fall would’ve wanted us to do that?” asked Bucky.
Pint lowered his head and sighed, “No.”
“We may not have been able to get her out again,” said Bucky. “But she always seems to smile when we stop by and share our stories.” He then grinned at Pint before adding, “Especially how I always beat you in Backyard Brawlers.”
Pint scowled toward his friend as he stated, “You’re a cheat! And you don’t always beat me.”
Bucky laughed as he nudged his pinto-spotted friend and said, “It’s that reaction that makes Fall smile every time.”
Pint’s expression changed as he asked, “It does?”
“Oh, yeah!” cheered Bucky. “While you’re getting all in a fuss you make the funniest of faces as your voice gets all squeaky and you go, ‘That’s not true! So not true! Blah, blah, blah!’.”
Pint felt himself about to argue with his friend. However he chose against doing so as he didn’t want to give Bucky more to tease him about.
“You know what?” asked Pint.
“Chicken butt!” proclaimed Bucky.
Pint shook his head at his comedic friend. Once Bucky got started it was often hard to stop him.
“No,” Pint said. “What if we brought our Backyard Brawlers to Fall and showed her what a match is really like?”
“Great idea,” stated Bucky. “But, I don’t know how well we could show her a game while hiding in the bushes.”
Pint narrowed his eyes, “I’m tired of having to hide in the bushes.”
“I also don’t see why the other kids tease her for ‘Talking to her imaginary friends.’,” stated Bucky with a frown. “There’s nothing wrong with a little filly like her having an imaginary friend.”
“And we’re not imaginary,” stated Pint as he stomped his hoof.
“So what do we do?” asked Bucky.
Pint looked up to face his Pegasus friend as he replied, “We’re going to go in and show every pony how real we are.”

There's a typo? Oh, man.
The screen reading technology I use to edit will often make "You Are" and "Your" sound similar. So I miss things like that.
When I release the final version of this to FiM Fiction I'll try to make sure the typo is removed.
Can you tell me whereabouts it is?

Ooh! Active assistance! Woop!
I found the oops and fixed it. I'll have to locate it in the original document before I put this on FiM Fiction for Ari.
I'm very inclined to typos. I try to avoid them, but I accept them for I want to enjoy the writing process and not nit-pick it. The more I overly nit-pick my work the more I get frustrated and end up doing nothing. I'd rather have oopsies than do nothing due to being a fussy pants.

Oooh, this is definitely foreshadowing an important event. Glad to see you continue this story Yosh.
On another note, that orphanage really needs some more accountability regarding the way they treat their charges. Yeesh! They should be getting them involved in the community and allowing them to interact with other foals their age.

The way in which Ari described the orphanage got me thinking a lot about State Funded Systems. So, in that spirit, I tend to think of the orphanage and it's operators as victims of horrific underfunding, being under staffed, lacking in proper supplies, and having a far too high ratio of foals to responsible adults.
What is often forgotten when legislators do budgets is how their cuts impact those who are at the front lines of providing needed services to those who are in need. Especially when you close more facilities while making one bear the burden of all those in which were closed to save a buck at the cost of the ones those places were doing a fine job in serving.
So, from my standpoint, this orphanage suffers a lot from under appreciated Staff who, sadly, take their frustrations out on the kids. Kind of a "We're not paid enough to deal with this."
I'm pretty sure that is not what Ari was going for. But it is how I am able to mentally justify the negative behaviors and negligence within this facility.

What you noted is unfortunate for many people. :(
My "Cutie Mark" is not in Business. It is in Writing. But life moved me towards Business Administration and all I've experienced in being in a business setting is suffering and discrimination.
My "Cutie Mark" largely inclines me to help people through creativity by using my talents to relate and encourage others. But there is no financial gain in doing so. This forces me to be like the orphanage workers in your story. They take a job to make money since we need money to provide for ourselves and our families. Unfortunately, in some cases, your "Cutie Mark" cannot shine in these settings.
If I could use the arts to help others, I'd be so very happy. But I unfortunately cannot. I need to support my family while maintaining the medical coverage I need to not go blind even faster while experience pain brought on by improperly controlling the condition as it deteriorates. It's unbelievable how much my regiment of medicines cost with insurance let alone if they were bought out-of-pocket.
It's so sad when we can't truly live our lives based on our "Cutie Marks". I'd have gone to college for Education if I didn't know my visual disability would be exploited by kids who know I can't see them. (From the front of a room I've never been able to see faces in the front row and all those in further rows to me never appeared as more than smudges)

ya doesn't make what they do right, but that's their main reason, they get the funding, but they don't use it on the kids they tend to buy cheap, use the kids as labor, though mainly fall as it all gets put on her by the others, and they keep the money themselves out of greed
Ya cept you don't take it out on others and act in greed like them
Me I'm blank, not a clue where my talent is and I still know whatever the job you should do it with love, but many are not like that

Ah, now I see. That makes a lot more sense. Ponies, like people, can be swayed by greed. Knowing you can get away with improperly allocating funds is definitely a matter worth exploring.
Do you believe the efforts of Bucky and Pint may, one day, reveal this unfortunate situation? Would you say there is one Pony in particular in the orphanage who got the idea started about taking the funding for themselves instead of for the orphanage?

perhaps there was, there arent very many staff though and that would have happened back when fall was to little to understand the world around her as an infant or one year old
as for pint and bucky, well we are speaking in a very open place so...spoilers? I'll note ya
