UPDATE 6/13: We are looking into paper that holds up with markers. Ideas that are being considered are the following...
1. Book Owner return info page. May include a few boxes for fun portraits of yourself.
2. Art prompt pages. For when artist draws a blank. May come with a few pre made ideas then leave blank lines for the book owner to write their own.
3. Back end folder or sleeve. This could store business cards or character references or loose leaf paper .
4. Freeform/ collaboration section toward back.

Well. Nice thought.
I would go with something like a slide in A4 or A5 sheets into some plastic transparent holders.
I know it can be not a such deal but you would be able keep large space per artist and each sjetch would be protected.
the sheet could even have a poket for artists business card.

This was aimed toward small couple minute doodles you likely won't be paying anyone for. Quick samples of their work and info on where to find them if you really liked it. I was thinking at a con you won't have time to get something super involved.
Its possible to add a few blank free for all or collab pages in the back .

That is a fine goal, but most con sketches are paid and can turn into large and/or elaborate pieces that require overnight work to finish. I've been gradually filling a large sketchbook for the last 8 years and just a few of them (out of well over 70 drawings) have been freebies.
As an artist yourself, you likely get a lot of sketch trades or just quick gifts from friends, but it is seldom the case among non-artist sketch seekers. You may find yourself with a larger market if you gear it toward larger, paid pieces.
Just my 2¢! I think it's a great product idea.

so if I see it correctly there will be space on the left for notes... by whom? and to the right is space for the sketch?
sorry, the image is a bit out of focus on my monitor for whatever reason. but it is a thing to ponder and work out more. :)
heh, the smallest sketchbook I ever seen was the size of a large stamp. XD talk about working small. ^^

The notes section is mainly for collecting names and webpages from the artist if you like their work. Another space to put the name of the con and year you got the sketch.
The size likely won't be smaller than 8.5 by 11 at most. So if everyone gets half a page or a quarter at least I would hope that's enough room for a quick doodle while passing someone at con.

sounds like a plan. at the smaller german cons nobody charges for a doodle in a sketchbook usually. in return the artist gets a good lot of artistic freedom. it's free after all. :)
but the notes section would be helpful to relocate them, and send them a scan/photo of the sketch later. (not that many go to that length for a gift... but, still.)
half of 8,5x11 sounds like A5. enough space for something quick, I'd say.
West below has a good idea, too. for those books that don't have the overall theme on the envelope already. :)
I bought a nice sketchbook with a gold-acryling painting of a tiger on the cover, which of course, set the theme for the book. :)
