I dunno about you but I can do it. Weird fact: Healthy pet rats smell of grape soda... but only the girls.

can you tell individuals apart then? Back when my family had multiple cats, I could tell which one was sleeping on my face by scent (they seemed to take turns deciding who was going to half-suffocate me on a particular night ;=P

I can tel them apart by claws, relative pudgyness and probably by scent, but I only have two, so it's not hard.

I was impressed up until the end.

I thought that you were joking - until my partner BeastInShow got some pet rats. You are absolutely correct.

Mindboggling, isn't it? Rats are great. Trudy's developed a habit of stretching out across one palm for a back rub now.
If you want to see all out rat warfare, get a small, one rat sized box and put it into the cage....

BeastInShow is very smart so the rats were able to rapidly train her to bring them goodies - but Beast is quit careful about overfeeding. We found out about the "one rat sized box" effect, and rapidly provided a second larger box. Rats bred for many generations to perform well on mazes have scored over 40 IQ on the Raven's progressive matrices intelligence test for humans. I sure wish that we could get a couple of those!

I'm just, uh, holding these rats for a friend! He's out of town and needed me to take care of them!

That's why you keep your own and you don't jsut pick them up from an unscrupulous rat dealer.

Too true. You buy from those back-alley pushers, you might get a rat that has been cut with cheap gerbils. One lungful of that, and you're growing hair from your gums.
