I can actually see why it would be a failure.

Children are both incredibly easy yet incredibly hard to market to. And their attention span is limited. They are also capable of unending cruelty but also unending love.


And even if thinking machines are a thing in this setting, it would explain why the idea of Eeple's line being alive is so unusual. It would be cruelty to condemn any sufficiently intelligent VI to endless abuse and dependance by immature intelligences only for them to grow obsolete the moment the children's minds evolve... with the alternative being unable to create meaningful bonds that go beyond the childhood of those they meet with.

Thus, such machines would not be designed to evolve enough to crave any such thing.


Definitely glad I started reading this. Couldn't help but noticed that the model on the far left mirror the machine of Machine 2.
