When on adventures in the outdoors, further than the nearest park or sports park, Having a fixed blade knife with you is always good. Here is a short selection of some of my gear.
Left: The TOPS Knives Moccasin Ranger is a wicked little slasher. Sharp as sin and robust, they are also quite affordable. Look them up on Amazon. This is the factory Kydex sheath. Ok for light carry, but overall I don't care much for it as the blade can spill from the sheath if you stumble.
Center: This is what you slap on your belt when you dont want to pack a hatchet. This is the Combat Cleaver, with a custom sheath from a great fellow on the Facebook Cool knives and gear page. It features and altoids tin for small bits and a ferrocerrum rod for quick fire starting. Quite a beast!
Right: Small enough to EDC everyday in town or bush dependent upon your local laws, This TOPS Knives Fieldcraft rides in a leather sheath made custom for me by the guy who made the cleaver sheath. The sheath also holds a multitool, in this case a Gerber Diesel, a AAA cell LED penlight, and a Fisher Spacepen for taking notes in the weather resistant pad of paper you also carry when you stomp about the woods or deserts... These are some of my personal favorite outdoor EDC equipment.
Here is a little quiz, can you guess the function of the round depression in the cleaver and Fieldcraft handle material?
