The hat was going to come into play eventually.
Recently, I've been letting more of my furry side seep more publicly into my soccer fandom. I've begun tweeting during Orlando City matches from my furry account. I wear one of my badges (one from
likeshine) at matches and watch parties.
And I got the jersey customized this past weekend. In RL, it has the special 2015 fan numbers that are an August feature throughout MLS. I'm on the 8.
As for the hat, there is a story behind that. The hat is how people really recognize me. I'm a fairly highly-recognized person in Orlando City circles. I blogged about the team during its minor-league days. I'm well-acquainted with the President of the club, Phil Rawlins. I helped found the club's oldest supporters' group, The Ruckus.
This is actually the fourth verson of my signature straw hat. I got it on a Disney cruise last October, and put the bandana (which is Ruckus design) over the original Mickey hat band when the MLS season began.
The first version was a UCF straw hat whose band was affixed cheaply and fell off. I wore it from our first regular-season home match in 2011.
The second version was bought in Columbus, SC, during a road trip to support the team in Charlotte in 2012 to open the USL season. I had forgotten the first hat, and needed something. It was a softer straw, with a plain black hat band.
The third version was bought in 2014. I needed a new UCF hat, and the second hat was too soft to hold its shape anymore. I largely retired it because I didn't like the shape. The top was too flat.
Anyway, about the picture. This was a lot different than what I had originally envisioned. It's also a lot more dynamic and saucy than I ever imagined.
But I do love it. :P
