Trade with
Wolfattwilight
Firstly, scanner rape ohGAWD scanner rape. *blows his rape whistle*
Anyway, another backgroundy trade. I forget what I was trying to learn this time though. I think I did my usual thing and just sorta screwed around without actually learning anything >.> Ah well... I'll try and learn something more specific next time. Doesn't mean I'll succeed, but whatever... practice is practice, I guess...
A lot of the effects didn't work quite as I had hoped, but feh. I still kinda like the picture, and I think she came out looking pretty well, myself.
Not sure what else to add, so, er, enjoy!

Most people seem to think that was grass. All in all it's evident I did a pretty piss poor job on the water effect, but since that's not the part I was really focusing on, I don't care much... maybe I'll make another go at water in the next one, though, just to figure out how to do it. x3
But, I'm glad it's not all bad. x3 Thanks :3

hmm. well i most certainly like the little pine tree forest in the back there. and the snow looks far more fun and pleasing than the snow around my place right now. so that's automatic bonus points too XD and she looks really really pretty. definitely like the panting/tongue lolling look too. very very nice ^^
There's no need to apologize- I've always been in the opinion that if the viewer can't figure out what something is in a picture, then the artist screwed up. It shouldn't be possible to not tell if the artist did a good job. So dun worry about it. I did a pretty shit job of it. xD I think I'm going to give water a more serious attempt in the next picture I do. I didn't try too hard in this one, but it's evident I need the practice. x3
Hahah, dun worry about it. These are specifically supposed to be for practice... as you can tell, I have no idea what I was doing. xD All I ask is that you try to learn or improve something about your backgrounds while you draw it... as long as you're learning, I'm happy. :P So don't be afraid of what might happen, just jump in and try anything.
Also I'm glad you like it, hehe. x3 Thanks! :3

I tend to use either a french grey, which is like a light brown, or a cool grey, or just my pencil... it depends on what the colours around the white are. And if it's a -really- detailed picture, that's really zoomed in (basically just like a headshot that fills the entire piece of paper, as detail is limited by size anyway), then I'll use all three in different areas to create neat shading effects... but I almost never do that 'cuz it's hard to really do it right on anything less detailed, and I rarely have the room for it.
*nod* Drawing big does have its advantages....and Im learning alllll about that. xD Fuckin' Drawing I, we have massive drawing pads we have to use. It was really hard to get used to at first, but its amazing for working on detail, cause you pretty much have to when you draw that big.
*nodnod* Indeed... I wish I could use bigger paper sometimes, but unfortunately, I'm limited by the size of my scanner. So I pretty much have to stick to 8.5 x 11. Even my watercolour paper, which is only 9 x 12 is too big for my scanner and has slight overhang. It's frustrating, but eh... until I manage to find some sort of massive, cheap, flatbed desktop scanner, I'll just have to stick to standard legal size paper. xD
Heh. A couple of my submissions are the big paper...the 3 newer charcoal drawings Ive posted. I just took a picture with my cell phone. So the quality is pretty shitty...but its better than not being able to share at all. I dont think it would matter so much...half the time cameras do les raep than scanners anyway. xP
Every once in a while, I do a background kinda simple like what I did this weekend: http://www.furaffinity.net/view/1740141/
It's nothing fancy but it's what Ying and Yang's home would look like inside.
Then I go crazy sometimes and cram a lot of stuff in it while not making it look like an art landfill.
