I've always been fond of 'animate inanimate' creatures like golems and robots and such, and one of my all time favorites is the Japanese yokai known as a nurikabe, essentially a big sentient wall that likes to get in people's way when they're trying to get home.

I decided to make one of my own, and here he is, Oklika! He has little rain gutters installed on himself, and keeps excess rainwater in a little barrel he keeps lashed to his... waist? Let's say waist. When it gets too dry out, he uses his wee ladle to spoon out water to the plants that grow on him to keep them healthy.

...I kinda want to make him the protagonist in one of my games now...
