Tissavel swatch pillow
I occasionally have the pleasure of working with Tissavel fur fabric. I don't know if any of you folks are familiar with it, but it's a high-end fashion fur, meant to be made into fake fur coats and throws and so on. It's the only fur fabric I've worked with that actually feels like real animal fur. I love the stuff, but at $159 a yard, it's kind of out of my budget!
I had an old set of sample cards, but they were way out of date. So I ordered some new ones and they arrived yesterday. There are some NICE furs in there! They don't do free samples, but frankly, I don't care! I'd pay the $17 just to pet the furs, I think. *purrrrr* Particularly the french blue ermine. ZOMG. I want some of that so badly!
But anyhow... with this shiny new set of swatches, I didn't really need the old set. But the old set was so nice, I couldn't bear to throw them out! So I peeled them off the cards and sewed them together into a swatch pillow. It is really awesome and soft and kind of cool looking too.
I almost wonder if I couldn't take commissions for these? This one was made from a 30 swatch set, and the new set has 60 swatches, so you could get a much bigger pillow out of it, particularly if you only used swatches for the front, and used a solid fur of some other kind for the back. But at $17 plus shipping for just the supplies for the front of a pillow, and with the time it takes to sew all the swatches in together, I think I'd have to charge something like $100 just for a pillow. I wonder if I'd get any takers?
Anyhow, here's something to do with old swatches that are too nice to throw away. :D
