this is a short fable i had to write for my speech class as an exercise to get us more comfortable with speaking in front of an audience. we could write about anything we wanted as long as it began with a question, transitioned into a story, and ended with a lesson.

i was influenced by "The Martian Chronicles" by Ray Bradbury 'v' particularly the short he wrote about an automated house that survived an atomic bomb and is eventually destroyed by a fire. it stuck with me, even though i first read it more than 10 years ago
