Wow! Big change in your style! You got more than one!

Un-huh. When I first began to draw (many centuries ago) I simply learned by copying the comics out of the daily newspapers.

Then I progressively worked toward a more realistic style because that is where I wanted to go. In the meanwhile I did a comic (on a small piece of paper 2X4“) most every work day, Monday-through-Friday, in a semi-comic style. I eventually did 400+ daily comics in this style and it was good practice.

Now I can switch between the two styles depending on the subject. Funny subjects get the loose comic style while the more serious subjects get the more realistic detailed style.

I mainly draw in the anime esque, but I wonder if I should try other styles?

I would suggest it. It keeps you from getting stale or bored with doing things the same way with every drawing. A different style will force you to look at your subjects differently which can be a nice break in your artistic thinking -- sorta a vacation.
