Overview
Sirysies are desert dwelling beast folk that stand an approximate 9 feet tall. There are exactly eight sub-species, all of which were formally recognized in the late 18-40BTD based on both physical and mental differences. Most Sirysies are omnivores with exceptions for both the Snake-Eyed and Notonmitre sub-species who are both strict herbivores.
Sirysies all share common features of between four to six arms, powerful jaws made for crushing, thick legs with hooves or thickly clawed feet, a long prehensile tongue and a tufted tail often used for show and ranking. Their body structures are often very muscular and lean, built for quick and agile primal fighting, except in the case of Shadow-skins who are strictly evasive and non-threatening.
Sirysies have very fragile mental capabilities, often subjected to insanity at young ages based on external stimuli. Magius is also a strong factor, as Sirysies are very susceptible to magical energies. As such their culture highly forbids the use/exploration of magical talent, despite the fact their kind are all gifted with the elements of fire, water and earth.
Physique & Appearance
Sirysies stand an intimidating 9 feet on average, with certain sub-species ranging between 7-8 and 10-12. Females are usually taller than males. There are three common genders among all breeds of Sirysies. Male, Female, ‘Norshire’, a gender with the physical attributes and reproductive organs of a male and the internal setup of a female. Norshire are highly respected in Sirysian culture.
On average all Sirysies are built for agile aggression, their bodies muscled but lean to allow for superior hand to hand and high level evasive manoeuvres. They are excellent jumpers and can easily clear twice their height, however they are not built for quick turns or flexibility, a confined Sirysian is clumsy without its ability to jump, roll or lunge.
Sirysian markings are usually bright and eye-catching shades of red, blue, green, orange or purple, while their main fur is dull and often darker colours such as greys, browns and blacks. Though lighter colours do occur it is far less often, a white Sirysian is so rare the chances of one being born are roughly 1 in 28,000.
Two armed Sirysies are highly unlikely; they are considered runts and/or mutations and often killed at birth. A six armed Sirysian is just as unlikely, though they are often highly respected and valued in Sirysian culture, often trained as warriors or hunters. An eight armed Sirysian is considered myth in most locations, however their most revered icon is an eight armed white Sirysian female, and there are many ancient depictions of eight armed Sirysies, suggesting that it was once a commonality.
Personalities & Temperament
Sirysies are docile creatures by nature, they don’t outwardly seek to harm or cause undue trouble for others, but their culture leaves little room for a loving upbringing. Sirysies often bond through group sexual activities, savage fights that can often lead to death, violent reminders of rank and a variety of other things. They are not quick to anger, but do take an extremely long time to calm and many males have temperament issues in their later years.
Sirysies are often bold, daring, brutally honest, supportive, tough-loving, rough and loyal, though certain sub-species such as the Devil-Horns have lost many of their racial traits.
Sirysies typically have an IQ of around 160 but they can advance very quickly with the right stimuli. Once a Sirysian reaches around 185 IQ they often go mad, thus they are born into a culture that limits as many chances to expand their knowledge as possible. I Knowledgeable Sirysian will lose their mind within years and more often than not will become an insatiable fiend that hunts, kills and destroys anything within reach. The laugh of a crazed Sirysian is blood curdling.
Breeding, Growth & Aging
Sirysies live in medium to large colonies consisting of around fourty females and twenty males, and are almost always lead by a female elder who uses extract from the Ponperu plant to postpone madness. An elder Sirysies will have an IQ of 200 and up, but will eventually fall into insanity at around 240. In Sirysian culture males are considered tools of the trade, they raise and care for the children, prepare food and ensure the females are living in optimal conditions.
Female Sirysians are able to both conceive and impregnate other females, while males can only impregnate, as such males are often considered useless, and in some tribes banished once they reach maturity. Sirysies are also able to breed with certain Pellials and Iumentis, but it is rare these matings will produce healthy/living offspring.
Culture & Social Structure
Sirysian culture is often considered tribal and barbaric in nature, many of their customs involving body mutilation or scarification through painful and dangerous means. All Sirysies that have not reached a level of insanity before their eighth birthday will endure a coming of age ritual where a particular type of insect is placed under the eyelid. It burrows into the eye until the Sirysies acidic fluids destroy it. If the insect is killed successfully the eye of the Sirysian is altered, allowing for almost perfect heat vision in that particular eye, though it renders it useless for anything else. This is particularly important to many Sirysies, relying on heat vision to locate and properly hunt their prey.
If the insect does not die it will lay eggs within the eye that will hatch and explode, mutilating the eye and a large area around it. Though this is rare it is not necessarily uncommon, and the results are not frowned upon by other Sirysies, who remain sympathetic.
Sirysies will often challenge each other for higher ranks in their corresponding fields, and as many of these are hunting & Fighting orientated it is extremely common for vicious fights to take place all around settlements, at any time, for any reason. Fights are used to resolve many disputes, and even recreational amusement. Though extremely violent in nature Sirysies will rarely continue a fight if their opponent is dangerously wounded, even insane Sirysies have this awareness, and though death is common through stubbornness, it is uncommon through brutality.
Sirysies follow female leaders, while males are considered useless, though no gender is treated poorly. The sirysian social structure is very nurturing, despite its aggressive practices, and even sick and elderly are treated with equal respect to hunters and protectors.
Habitat, Homeland & Constructions
Most species of Sirysian are desert dwellers, they construct their home in cliff faces or dig out large blocks of land up to and beyond 40ft deep. All their structures are carved and composed entirely from the rock, strong and sturdy enough to withstand the worst of desert weather, and thick enough to avoid damage from dangerous sand storms that strip the flesh from creatures unlucky enough to be stuck outside. They rarely use separate pieces, wood, or other building materials, and often times furniture is also carved into the structure itself.
It is said Sirysies originated from the Sol Arinate desert, whose red sands and dark rock were particularly useful to many ancient Sirysian traditions. However, since the bulk migrated in late 1400 BGU nothing but bones and ancient homelands remain. Sirysies now most commonly populate the harsh deserts of Sormanate through to the tropical forest of Torne. They rely heavily on the water bearing cacti found throughout and feast primarily on the flesh of desert carnivores such as the Otornite and Kotoko.
Sirysies often use bone in the creation of many things, manually operated machinery is often, if not always, made entirely of bone and other animal product.
Languages, Naming & Speech
Sirysies are given names that reflect their acts in their early years, before their coming of age. Before then they are nameless, and their names can be changed at any point to reflect deeds of later years. Common sounds in names are Si, Se, So, Ri, Ra, Sor, Sol and Lor. Often prefixes of Sel-Mir, Sel-For and Sel-Lor will be added before names to reflect certain statuses.
Sirysies are taught their native language and several common languages in their first three to four years, but it isn’t uncommon for a Sirysies to understand all languages by their late teens.
Religion & Beliefs
The global religious totem of the Sirysies is an eight armed female Sirysian with a pure white pelt and bright silver eyes. She commands six white felines that stand 6 feet tall from forepaw to head and they are often depicted as her steeds or drawing a large black carriage.
In Sirysian culture all felines are considered sacred, they are worshiped and often sought after for wisdom and guidance. Large felines known most commonly as Sand Tigers are often kept as guardians of villages, they do not look kindly on outsiders and are superb at seeking out and eliminating evil. Guardians often have large temples devoted to them, where they may seek shelter, eat, and raise cubs in safety, protected by elder Sirysies while the guardians are otherwise occupied.
Sirysies belief in the universal lore of ‘you reap what you sow’, and so they will often go out of their way to assist anyone worth their effort. They are also not against punishing those they believe aught to be punished, by any means necessary. That involves smugglers and trespassers in their deserts, thus the everyday Sirysian is often labeled a murder.
It is taught by their deity that all life and death is sacred and to be respected, and they follow these laws unconditionally. Unfortunately the use of all parts of a hunt is included, and so it is not uncommon for bones of their or other races to be used frequently. This is often misinterpreted by outsiders, and coupled with public displays of ‘aggression’ often adds to the Sirysies bad publicity.
Sirysies are often depicted in the history and legends of many other religions, acting as guardians and protectors for many influential figures. Most commonly found in ancient Odril carvings, where their god was protected by a large six armed Sirysies, and in Someris culture where the Sirysian is still a popular symbol of their faith. Sirysies also appear in several minor Legion religions and lifestyles while popular Sirysian figures can be found in many documented religious aspects of many other races.
History & Lore
The Sirysian heritage can be traced back further than most other races and Sirysian figures appear in the histories and lores of most cultures, often depicted as protectors, usually in the service of the gods of certain cultures. Even the Sirysies do not idolize a figure as being on the level of god, godlike, yes, but always bellow other deities such as the Legionaire Goddess, Bacht. In a vast majority of tales involving ancient day Sirysies they provided safe harbor and a trusted shield, and though several stories involve traitorous Sirysian guards they aren’t told often, and change far more so than the traditional tales.
Global Awareness & Other Cultures
Sirysian outcasts are extremely common and are most often found in mercenary, guard or army positions. Though Sirysian villages avoid contact with outside parties they are extremely well connected through scouts and Sirysian outcasts that often return home to impart knowledge and trade. Their culture is also widely shared and attracts a lot of attention from like-minded races. It isn’t uncommon to stumble upon a tribe who know more about the worlds events than the traveller, and likewise most cultures recognize Sirysian tribes and keep up to date records of all events that occur, right down to accidental deaths. Many cities are particularly accommodating, providing temples and shrines for outcasts and travelling Sirysies.
Other Notes
Horn shaping is a popular cultural expression among sirysies, most predominant in females in a similar fashion as one might model hair. The shaping is achieved through a method called Suriban, which entails two weeks of oiling, tying and bracing fully grown horns into a particular fashion. It is a delicate and slow process that leaves the horns soft and prone to chipping/splitting for another few weeks, which is why most warriors are not allowed to style them. Due to the difference in thickness from male to female weaker oils are used on the horns of males to avoid brittle bleaching and as such the actual bracing process may continue for over two weeks. The horns of males grow at 1/3 the pace of the females, which is a result of females being more bodily aggressive.
