going more modern style, but I would love to have the floor type of kotatsu.
A lot of old pillars need to be cut and put in new (termite damage). we are keeping some of the old light switches and light fixtures to keep the feel. I think it is going to be this strange combo of new and old.

Kotatsu are one of the most wonderful traps in all the world!! I call it a trap.. because these houses here just aren't very warm in the winter.. but the kotatsu is so nice and cozy and warm... once you slip into it.. you never leave. I've spent many a night sleeping under mine. It's my prize possession in the winter.

Yep.. I like this busy though. It wakes my body and I love seeing things change... I do have a soft spot for it too.. I was hoping to keep it some how.. still trying to convince my mate into putting another one in. My in-laws have the modern version of the sunken Kotatsu, but not the irori where you can cook and stuff. I think it would be great to have it in the floor, when it becomes cold we can just take it out and set it up.
