These stones look like they're cut from sandstone
Is that correct or common?
I really never paid much attention to what materials were used on older stones
and i imagine it depends on local stone sources at the time.
The only time i recall being in an old graveyard i noted that the marble seemed very eroded
but a lot of these images show spalling.

i was on another one of your posts and just about to comment on regional climate regarding marble longevity
kind of makes one wonder how the intersection of climate and historical availability of stone type
leads to certain regions with exceptional carving longevity... both good and poor
