Last night my mother passed away in a nursing home from advanced Alzheimer disease and renal failure. She was an artist at heart and it's where I get my artistic bent. This picture is one she did of the family puppies she was perhaps 9 or 10 years old. They lived in the wilds of Montana and they didn't have any paper for her to draw on but they did have plenty of flour sacks which were actually made of a nice cotton material similar to bed sheets today. Women of the depression often shopped for flour sacks based on color and pattern to sew clothes out of. Sometimes the sacks would be ripped or stained so instead of being made into clothes, it would be cut up for napkins, rags or drawing medium for the kids. She used map pencils from the looks of it although they might me crayons. It is a bit worse for wear as it has been framed and under glass for 70 years or so, it was placed on acidic cardboard which is of a prewar picture of a B-17 in flight. The cardboard caused a lot of yellowing and the flour sack material is stained but surprisingly well preserved.
Anyway, I wanted to share this before it finally degrades much like everything else in this life. Enjoy it while you can. 2015 can truly suck the snotty end of my love pump, both parents in the same year within 4 months of each other.
