Better effective armor is what I was referring to. The early production M4 Mediums had 50.8mm of armor at 56 degrees, 91.2mm LOS effective thickness. Late productions had 63.5mm at 47 degrees: that's 94.3mm of effective armor. The T-34 throughout its production only had 45mm at 60 degrees, 90mm. Not to mention the T-34 had HHA plating, which spalled a heck of a lot more than the soft CHA (on M4 Composite hulls, M4A1s, M4A5 (Ram Mk.I/II) and M4A6s) and RHA (M4, M4A2, M4A3, and M4A4) plating. This is why the M4 had much higher crew survival rates than the T-34. The E2 "Jumbo" Assault vehicle had 101.6mm of RHA (63.5mm of RHA with an extra 38.1mm of armor on top) angled at 47 degrees, that's 148mm effective armor, better than the Panther. Also, which 75mm round are ye referring to?
Sloped armor did not come along with the T-34. It was first noted during the Medieval times, and first noted in combat at the Battle of Hampton roads in the duel between the U.S.S. Monitor and C.S.S. Virginia (ex-Merrimack). In tanks, you notice heavily sloped armor right around Christie's designs, and first use off all-around sloped armor on the French FCM-36. All-round sloped armor was never used again by any nation after the war.
Speaking of uparmored M4s. I've even seen an M4A1 (76)W VVSS 'Thunder', I think it was called, with two issued 1" armor kits on top. That's 114.3mm of armor, angled at 47 degrees, considering its a late production hull, is around 168mm of effective armor. What's strange about it is that the TC's "all-around vision" type hatch is on the loader's side, and the loader's split-hatch cupola is on the TC's side. It's a weird layout. I'll try to find an image.

Found the image. It was from the 3rd Armored Divsion in Korbach, Germany.
