Indra the Sun Lion running for the waves!
Meet Indra, a hunk o' lion I drew as a character portrait for FurryMUCK. This image was hand-drawn, then scanned and rendered on Corel Photo-Paint 12. I've been told the Lens Flare feature is over-used for CG art, but I find it highly appropriate in this case! I like the waves, though I might've used a less "fluffy" airbrush setting - the spray looks like steam!
I wanted paramilitary overtones (hence the dog tags, picture title and khaki pants), but there's no telling if Indra is professional military or a military fashion enthusiast... I haven't decided yet. :) The dog tags read:
INDRA SGT

BUDDHIST
His tied-back mane is in the style pioneered by Vince Suzukawa in his comic stories "The Class Menagerie" and "I.S.O.". Who can resist a neatly-groomed lion?

Well, it's not just about cats. I like your rendition of the character, as it conveys a joyous abandon which is quite infectious to the point that you have to smile when you look at the picture.
Secondly, being a former military guy, and still working for the military as a civi, your choice of title is fantastic! There is simply no greater pleasure than two months at sea, or stuck in some miserable place, and then getting a few days to just cut look in a new and exciting place and have some fun! This image also brings that out clearly.
Probably, there is a lot of "eye of the beholder" stuff here, but the portrayal of the scene is wonderfully done in the context of "shore leave". I think that any artwork that can so clearly evoke the desired emotional response is extremely well done. I think you've managed to do that here extremely well. Perhaps for someone who's never been in the military, it might be just another well drawn picture with a well-drawn character. For me, it's grand stuff indeed.
Again, I must say: well done, Sir!

Thanks! <blush!> It means a lot, coming from someone who's personally familiar with the context, and has a positive response to the picture!
Of course, I've never been in the military myself - and "Shore Leave" was something of a pun. Not *all* shore leaves have to be spent by the shore... :)
