A very young Simon makes friends with his first werewolf . . .
If you're wondering about Si's color and are new here, he's a human/nyctivoe(vampire) genetic mosaic. Technically he has a greyish-yellowish skin tone with blue veining, but when you step back that turns into an unfortunate scooby-doo-vampire green. Ah well. I'm not the greatest colorist. He's still a cute little bugger.
I'm rather happy with Argent (the vargr's) face, which I did completely without photo reference. Usually I feel the need to surround myself with refs, and clearly he's inspired by apes, but I was afraid of being too literal. He's an older specimen anyways, which is why his face is so sunken and lined. I posed for Si holding my own sock monkey, and speaking of monkeys, this is when a prehensile tail would have come in very handy. I kept having to drop the monkey and try to sketch from memory. If you look at the rough sketch in the scraps, you'll see Si was originally just standing there - boring! - but since the vargr are basically atavistic carnivorus apes, I thought it would be amusing to put the sock monkey in there.
There are likely still problems, but at the moment I'm basically sick of looking at it, so up it goes.

This is astounding!
I love the sheer amount of different textures here. Definitely, the texturing work here is the best you've ever done (of what I've seen, at least).
This has some kind of lovely dark and surrealist feel. This almost seems like the picture of a child in a zoo, but the color scheme makes things so different!
The only flaw I can see is that Simon appears to be staring at the void rather than Argent.

Thanks.
As for Si, there's no way he could make eye contact and his face still be seen. I picture him having turned away abruptly, but his gaze is drifitng back over his shoulder - so the vargr is looking at him, but he's looking into space. It's an illo from a story, and the little guy is just THRILLED to have someone new to play with. He's very lonely. He's got his gaze fixated on some fantasy, probably of Argent giving him a horsieback ride (or maybe I just suck at art).

Pfft, why? The character was from a mecium-obscure art comic from the late '80's, and unless you were a fan of the man's work (as I am), a person wouldn't recognize it. The Argent in his story is so far-off different in both appearance and origin, and his personality is so different, that he's almost the opposite of your creation; he's a silvery-grey, your fellow is nearly black. Wagner's Argent is an Algonquin Aboriginal cursed with his appearance and long life by a crime he'd committed as a young man. Your Argent is what he is by evolution. His is a humanoid, wolf/cat-like thing with digitgrade legs and long, rabbity ears. Yours is humanoid and based on an ape-like animal... Really, I don't think anyone's gonna confuse the two.
I really like the green and yellow eyes on your fellow, by the way- they grabbed my attention the first time I saw him.
