This is the moment of truth.
A good Christian isn't supposed to judge others (ideally, though it's practically unavoidable for certain types of personalities, hope she remembers her thoughts for Confession.) If she collects herself and simply says she will pray for them, then I'll be impressed with her.

+1 to both! XD
Although to be fair, it's hard to not judge based on what's been shoved in your face, and the Christian media is all over the apparent "war on Christianity" that was apparently started when certain groups went all Dee Snyder Twisted Sister in the established norm :P

To be fair that's mostly on there own head because of what has been pressed and pushed into medium about how they act. Or how people have had to deal with them in real life. These action of the bear have been, alas, textbook of almost all of said religion I've ever met, including my own mother.
And as a visible minority, I can tell you all about the unfairness of being 'Guilty until proven innocent.'

It's not being Christian. It's being crosses-on-every-surface Christian that tends to correlate with being aggressively evangelist. It's not a one-to-one correspondence, but it makes for a high likelihood. If you see someone walking around with a cross necklace, that means they're probably Christian. If you see someone walking around with a cross necklace, six bumper stickers that display variations on 'look at me, I go to church,' and asking you where you go to church, they're much more likely to assume that you're also Christian and react highly negatively if you correct their assumptions.
She shouldn't even say that. Its insulting as an atheist to hear 'I'll pray for you' right after saying that your an atheist. It implies that this is a serious problem that needs to be fixed in their eyes. If she says that, I will judge her less harshly than if she explodes (which is what seems to be being set up), but I won't be particularly impressed. If she says, 'Oh. Then what do you do outside of work' or something similar, then I will be impressed.
The thing is, in her mind, *it is a serious problem that needs to be fixed*. The very foundation of her beliefs is that those who are without the grace of God are condemned to Hell for all eternity. With that in mind, it comes down to a non-charitable "oh well, it's their choice to go to Hell, not my problem my only interest is my own Salvation" attitude; the alternative attitude is more of a "they don't know what they're doing to themselves, I wouldn't be a good Christian if I didn't give it my all to try help them!"
It's just a matter of perspective.

I really like the bear character tho, I am hoping her reaction will be completely opposite of what everyone here is expecting and shut their mouths.
I love how people on the comments keep bashing this character saying she is mean for judging them when they are doing the exact same thing with this character, so ironic.

To be fair , the ball IS in her court. Her next action will probably determine whether or not she lives up to people's expectations. =P
From our perspective as spectators, this fictional character is indeed on trial for whether she is deserving of our sympathy or scorn based on how our own personal beliefs conflict or not with hers.

Being a non-practicing Christian means you're refusing to attend while you negotiate with the ownership over a contract dispute, due to such factors as the franchise player tag or disagreements over bonus structure.
... Wait, that's being a non-practicing NFL player. Never mind.

The thing is, people don't wake up one day and say, "Gee, I think God is real" or "I think I'll take a deistic approach to religion" or "I don't accept a literal interpretation of Genesis" any more than you simply chose to believe that God is not real on a whim.
And that's the fundamental problem so many people on both sides fail to grasp. Nobody is choosing what to believe– at least, most are not. Some will assert that you are choosing to reject God even though, deep down, you know that He is real. How does that make you feel? Now keep in mind that two wrongs don't make a right. You would be pulling the exact same bullshit as my example if you were to say this sort of thing to the religious.
Most people I have spoken to are not arrogant enough to assume that they know anything about the subject of religion with absolute certainty, be they atheist or religious. Which is why these are referred to as beliefs by almost everybody who follows them… except for mindless Dawkinites and evangelists.

Oh, how 'Art' often imitates (reflects?), real life!
Had an Aunt do exactly the same thing to me (complete with the unholy collection of 'Holy' decorations).
"Do you believe in God?", she asked.
"Nope!", I replied.
That *LOOK*... Captured 'That Look', PERFECTLY!
And then she started-in on me. And I gave back just as much as she tried to shove down my throat. Politely, of course. Wasn't there to offend, and I was a guest in her house. Congeniality goes both ways (to a point).
Never had a problem with anyone worshiping whatever their hearts and souls desire, so long as everyone involved is consensual.
But don't go throwing your theological rocks in MY green house, tyvm!
Lovin' the comic, btw! The 'Roo girls are wonderful!

Well she seems surprised, which is fine. I get the fear from A&H that this will go poorly, I've had people react like that just before transitioning into 'you unholy heathens should be ashamed. Do not come near my family' mode, which is never fun to hear. I've also had people who take a moment to process, then move on with the conversation. She's seemed nice so far, I hope she is able to accept them as non-religious and it won't be a huge deal that others don't believe what she does.
Just gonna throw in my two cents here. I don't anticipate any outburst of anger or indignant self-righteousness on her part. Looking at her expression, she seems more surprised or confused by their statements. Thus the "...?" there in the third panel. I think that perhaps it just never occurred to her that anyone else could possibly be anything other than her own particular brand of religion. This can happen with people who have been raised within a religious community and have never really been exposed to anyone outside of that.
Did she make assumptions? Yes, she did. Is she going to blow up and kick the heathens out of her house, or try to aggressively convert them? That remains to be seen. At that moment, there is no real expectation for her reaction based on what's happened in the comic. Sure, the ladies there are expecting a certain reaction from her, same as the readers are, based on previous experience or religious stereotypes, but so far, there's no proof that this bear lady is going to follow through on any of those expectations.
tl;dr I am reserving judgment of this bear's reaction until I actually see her reaction.

I don't know how much my two cents are worth but honestly her reaction seems more like it never occurred to her that there were nonreligious options, like "Doesn't everybody go to church? Der?"
This is only tangentially related but I love a recent quote from Stephen Colbert when asked if he's a practicing Catholic by Bill Maher "I practice but that doesn't mean I'm good at it!"

I'm sensing some kind of lack of conviction from these two if after admitting their religious beliefs (or lack thereof), they immediately feel the need to run off.
If they can go visit someone they know to be religious like this person is, they should have been willing to deal with the inevitiable conflict that would arise when they spoke to her at length.

It's still going on my studio website http://rickgriffinstudios.com/comic.....lub-2-page-13/
Just read the most recent A&H comic update (page 22) and must I say OH my gosh, I think Adrian is gonna say something so hurtful to Eliza there will be an all out argument...then she and Hilde will get kicked out. Sad though...since I was kinda liking Henry. I'd like to see more of him later.
Eliza is getting kinda outta hand. She isn't cute to me anymore. Her kind of character makes me question as to how Henry fell in love with her. She's very...narrow minded, I guess? While Henry is more open minded and understanding. Their personalities or morals (that have been shown/what I can presume based on what has been shown) clash a bit besides the religion they share once ya think about it.
However, that could just be me rambling nonsense again since this is just the first time we've seen these characters.
This comic is kinda making the other side look demeaning and domineering...from Eliza anyway... :/
