that would be made by BAC? i always thought it looked like it was related to the Fishbed bomber, could be the russians tended to copy everybody.

Actually they pretty much came into service at the same time (spy's probably helped the russsian design as they do have a habit of copying!) and yes it was made by BAC but back then they were called English Electric, it was the last all british fighter designed. In general performance the lightning was better, it could takeoff and then climb at 90 degrees, however the Fishbed was more adaptable and simple.
