that being said, this was just a fun lil thing i started working on last night. as you can tell there wasn't a whole lot of effort put into it, but i like the result regardless!! maybe i'll do a part 2

I'd have to say, of all these, I'm pretty sure I dislike nitpickers the most, because when I do something and show it to a commissioner it's -usually- because I feel like I got it right / nailed it, and then NOPE YOU HAVE A MILLION INSIGNIFICANT THINGS TO CHANGE HAHA :0)
My favorite to work with is probably 'shy babies', though veteran commissioners are always both easy and a treat

I am SO sorry to hear that because MAN that is the worst, ESPECIALLY when they complain about the price
some people just don't get it!
It's funny you mention that because I tried to emulate a super complex character as best as I could, my mind just can't even fathom creating a design like that haha
the struggle

my least favorite has to be Grouchy
I just cannot work with someone who doesn't give any feedback and isnt really that polite
I'd honestly rather have someone being a bit nitpicky in that situation OTL
but I have another one for you
Kid
- under the age of 16 and has like $7 to their name
- complains when you won't work for half of that
- tells all their friends how much of a big meanie you are in public journals
(pretty rare and definitely not all kids [sometimes it's adults too] but I still do see them from time to time :"V)

As for myself, I'm a mishmash of Shy Baby, Veteran, and a smidgen of Nitpicker (only a smidgen because I really only speak up when things are wrong enough to warrant a comment). Tbh I kind of enjoy how many people get Darling's hair/mane/beard combo wrong. It's nice to see different artists' interpretations of it xD
I can agree with you there! I don't understand why people will get a commission from an artist if they want to be a total jerk about it like that. What's even the point?
By the way, that is an EXCELLENT suggestion haha! I can't tell you how many of those I get on Steam on a daily basis x___x If there is a part two, I've definitely got to add that one in
Totally empathize on that second comment, too! If I were to pick a combination for myself I'd be inclined to say 'veteran'; years of commissioning and being a commission artist has all but beaten the shy baby aspect out of me x3 so nowadays if people get something wrong with my character's design, I usually just let them know... unless they've already finished the commission by that point D:

that is a fair point! i feel like there is a good medium ground between being a nitpicker and just pointing out honest mistakes that would otherwise ruin the picture for you. i never mind when someone wants a few things changed and implore them to speak up about it, but oh man there is such a thing as excess XD
I kinda of agree with this, but at the same time I don't.
Like, with some artists, I seem like the nit picker. But that's because I gave them a clear and concise reference and they messed up something that was STUPIDLY simple. And half of the nitpicks happen because the person didn't check in with the commissioner. So it's the opposite of Grouchy. With Grouchy the artist checked in. With the nitpicker, they did not.
Other times, I'm the noob, asking for updates daily because I was specifically promised something in a time span that didn't happen.
Other times I look like the veteran because I come in, I pay for my stuff, I love it and leave.
So would I be considered a mix of all three of those?
I feel like it would be interesting if you did a part two showcasing the different kinds of artists out there.
Like the kind that look like they draw amazing until you give them a character they're not interested in, so then the quality goes down considerably.
Or the artist that charges too little for their art because they don't believe in themselves. But they're fantastic.
And you know, the artist that takes money and never actually draws the commission. Then get pissed off at the commissioner for checking in on things they paid for and rightfully deserve. >n>

gonna be honest, im the shy baby, the noob and like only a TINY bit of veteran.
it usually takes an hour for me to man up and send an artist a message when it comes to commissions. i apologize a lot, very sweet (according to my friends) and well... collects art like pogs xD

this is SO accurate and hilarious. i've run into every single one of these, and some combinations. grouchy+nitpicker is obviously the worst of the worst. that's only happened a couple times thank goodness.
i try my darndest to be the vet, but sometimes still fall into the shy bby category. nothing wrong with that i suppose! i love giving artists freedom because that usually produces the best work, but i know that makes a lot of people (myself included actually) uncomfortable, worried they're working with a possible grouch or nitpicker. so i always give like one or two specific things i'm looking for in the piece, then cut the artist loose. it's nice to have a framework and still leaves a ton open to interpretation! best of both!

I'm happy to say I best fit the veteran with a large amount of shy baby and hints of this guy. I like to think my characters are unique without being unnecessarily complex. Well, maybe one of them is borderline. But I'm happy to pay extra! Artists deserve support for the work they do!
This is great, and I'd love to see a part 2!

Definetly shybaby/veteran hahaha. As an artist myself I always try to treat the people I'm commissioning how I would like to be treated - I can only hope I come off nicely.
-tries to be organized and have multiple refs, but not overwhelm them
-Accommodating but not too shy
-Knows what I want but likes to give lots of artist freedom

"I would like my dragon-donkey-corgi character sucking on a STRAWBERRY lollipop (they do not like blueberry as it is disgusting ugh gross can't even!!!111) and then sitting on a pond
with koi fish NOT goldfish koi fish with some clouds misting the water just a TINY bit but enough to see that my character is mysterious and then they are wearing nine white bikinis as
they have eighteen nip nips thanx!!!!!1111111"
I'm totally kidding!! I literally know all of these people mentioned. I myself am the shy baby because I'm literally happy with anything. Plus my characters pretty much all have simple
designs for the sake of both artists (me and others) ahahaha! Awesome doodles they are freaking adorable.

Me: - Gives fully detailed reference sheet.
- Provides information on what I want, apologizing profusely.
- Only asks for a WIP if it's been over a month, feels bad about it.
- Sees error in final product because no WIP was provided but loves it anyway, so never asks for correction.
- SHOWERS ARTIST WITH COMPLIMENTS.

God, I'm such a shy baby... I feel kinda' bad about it. I try to at least show I have a backbone. I would hate to seem like I'm trouble. :/
But the problem is that you're forced into one of these positions eventually, because there are some artists that say to give a vague description, and others that want you to tell them exactly what you want.

I am the nitpicker, no question about it. I have even asked for changes after a painting was finished (and I've done this twice). On my defense, though, I always offer to pay extra (and do so afterwards and upfront) but I avoid commissioning people among other reasons to not give them cancer :[
I cannot stand nitpickers. Ask for updates. Take updates when I offer them to you. DO NOT for the LOVE OF GOD tell me to change something after everything is finished. Its soooOOOOooo rude. Honestly, if its 100% my fault, I'll probably cut your price, throw in an extra couple sketches for free, or if its not too impossible (like needing to change half of the entire pose. wtf my people??) change it and cut the price.
But if its not my fault... Imma be pissed at you.
Like alright, if you really know what you want, thats great! Awesome! But be totally upfront about it from the beginning, not just assume i know whats in your head.

I'm a mix of Shy Baby and Noob.
I hate pointing out mistakes regarding my characters, because I KNOW how much work the artist is putting into the piece and when they have lower prices I feel like asking for changes is taking advantage of them, but I'm also bad at putting ideas into words, so I've gotten to a point where most of my commission prompts are intentionally vague and open ended.
On the other hand, I am not a good judge of time, so I tend to ask for updates at what FEELS like reasonable intervals, but may be a bit too often.
There have been times where I ordered a commission with a generic character prompt and a generic pose request, then never checked in to see how the artist was doing, and I actually forgot I had ordered a commission from them.
