So I really love the show Bizarre Foods and am always trying new things. This one in particular came out good >.<
Recipe (my own, not from a book)
What you'll need:
2 to 2.5 lbs of Ox tail chunks (fyi it's beef lol)
16oz beef stock
4 chicken bullion cubes
7 to 8 cups of water
6oz snow peas
16oz can of corn
2 medium turnips
1 large sweet onion
1/2 cup cherry tomatoes
6 to 8 celery stalks
1/2 cup bell or sweet peppers
4-5 tbls corn starch
1/4 cup red wine or red cooking wine
2-3 tsp black pepper
2-3 tsp salt
2-3 tsp oregano
2-3 tsp dill
2-3 tsp cilantro
2-3 tsp sun dried tomato
3-4 tsp garlic powder
--- Really important, the seasoning measurements are approximate! Taste your food once the meat is cooked (about 5 hours on high). Season to your tastes and don't be afraid to try different seasoning types!)
The prep and cooking of this is super easy. Cook time is 5-6 hours on high in your crock pot. Prep time is 15-20 minutes
1. Rough chop your veggies
2. Place the ox tails in your crock pot first to ensure it's covered by the liquid
3. Dump all your veggies, stock, water and seasonings in the crock pot and put on high.
4. Check every so often and stir
5. At about 5 hours, mix your corn starch with a little water in a separate container. Once it's fully mixed, dump it in the crock pot. Doing this prevents clumping.
6. Taste and adjust seasoning.
7. It is done when the meat is tender and veggies are soft.
Keep in mind while you eat, ox tails do have ones so be careful as you nom. =)
I know ox tail might seem weird to some of you, but I highly suggest trying it. It is really good!
