Sadly, it is true. I was informed that balloons would not be allowed at a con. Anthrocon doesn't allow helium balloons because the convention center adds a ridiculous amount to the con in the assumption that the convention center has to hire someone to remove any that get loose but doesn't object otherwise to non floaters. (as far as I know)
This other con said that none would be allowed in the dealers den or artist's alley. Since the artist's alley is usually in the common area to the con, it is pretty much saying that they are banned altogether. Though I don't have a fursuit, I'm known for always having a balloon with me. So, now I have to decide whether I will attend this convention or not. Silly or not, it feels like being told you can't fursuit.
I'm not a happy bunny right now.

That isn't it. Their rational is that it might disturb the artists if one is popped so it is best not to allow them.
Of all the years I've attended there has been no problem. At least no one has told me of one. I would think that having people asking questions, commissioning, and generally chatting and BS-ing with them would disturb the artists far more than if one balloon popped. (and I've never had one pop in a con area in over 13 years in all the different cons I've attended)
