A loud boom from outside shook me from my thoughts and sent me scurrying out of the small office to hide under one of the fallen store shelves just nearby. This was just great. I waited for a moment before starting to slowly crawl back out, but a bright flash of light broke the dark sky along with another rumbling explosion which thoroughly convinced me to stay where I was. Those sounds were terrifying, ridiculously loud, and I've never heard anything like it before. The shelves were the closest thing to cover I felt I had. I curled up under them in a small fetal ball of terror with both my ears pinned back.
The sky had opened up with a terrifying display of light and sound and I was stuck hiding under a store shelf. To make things worse, a new sound started assaulting my ears; a hissing of water on the ground and roof like a much louder version of the shower stall back in my room at home. The erratic cacophony of sound and lights in the sky outside had me paralyzed with fear and I actually started crying. I clearly had no choice but to wait this out, curled up in a little ball of fear, misery and tears. Time seemed to lose its focus as the storm outside continued on. I eventually became exhausted from all the crying and fell into a fitful sleep.
