Football primer: Leicester now just need to win one of their last three games to guarantee that they'll be the Premier League champions! To say this was unexpected is a wild understatement, and it's going to cost the bookies a lot of money if it really happens...
Gambling on football is a big thing in Britain, and at the start of the season a small handful of Leicester fans put a bet on their team to win the league, more as a show of support than because anyone thought it could possibly happen, at odds of 5000-1. As the season went on and the odds dropped fast when Leicester kept winning, a whole lot more people started betting on a Leicester win, and they'll be getting a big payout at the end of the season if it happens!
Back in August, the only teams thought to have any chance of winning the league were Chelsea and Manchester City, possibly Manchester United or Arsenal, mmmmmaybe Liverpool at a pinch. Tottenham Hotspur? Well, if something unexpected happens to all five of those other teams, maybe. Leicester City? Nobody asked the question, let alone tried to answer it. This is entirely unprecedented in the history of the Premier League, or even of football itself. A lot of people are pointing that out right now.
