I’ve been wanting to draw this for months now, and finally got around to it on Monday. I worked on it on and off through the week until finishing it just now.
Aren’t the little leviathan hatchlings so cute? <3

A lot of people seem to disregard that for aesthetic reasons, possibly because we didn't find out about that sexual dimorphism until much later and after we had already grown quite attached to the bright and vivid design. Apparently the females have smaller fins and are duller in color while the males are the highly colorful and PINK ones.
I'm not aware of any canonical depictions of female tamamitsune just yet, (Then again I haven't really gone looking xD) but I still feel most artists would ignore it in favor of just drawing them like males but then informing people - in the description or via dialogue - their actual gender x) Just like many people make mitsune's snout more canine-like than it really is.
I think it's a shame they didn't have both genders in. Maybe they didn't feel it' be worth it. Right now, the only two monsters I can think of that feature obvious sexual dimorphism in-game are the Jaggies and the Raths. On that note, it's pretty cool how unique the Jaggies are despite their low position on the 'social ladder' amongst monsters: They've got a special family set up in-game that most other monsters don't have (Males, females, alpha males), and they're one of the very few monsters that will actively attack OTHER monsters on the field and not just magically gang up on you on-sight.
I remember a time in the Everwood where I was chasing down a Kut-ku and it fled into this one area... Garuga was already there, just minding his own business and Kut-ku was fleeing into a wall in panic and not getting anywhere, but then Garuga saw me and once he attacked Kut-ku followed suit. As much as they hate each other, they hated me more I guess. Meanwhile, Jaggies will actively attack Rathians and even Lagiacrus if given the chance. Suicide to be sure, but it's interesting at least xD
