I have pretty much the same process for all my shaded pieces.
This tutorial is meant for experience level moderate to expert.
Sort of redundant in that way, isn't it?
A lot of shading has to do with experience and intuition, but here's how you can replicate my effects at least.
If you have a question about anything discussed, feel free to ask!
I'll also make other tutorials on request.

This looks very nice and very helpfull too, thanks a lot :D
I do have a few minor questions though:
- The layer with the purple color (layer 9) is that just purple painted over the base color layer? And do I see it right that the purple color here is being blended / shaded since the shading layer is on top of it?
- When merging those shaded layers, Do you first merge them and press preserve opacity (= lock opacity ?) or the other way around?
- Is the color of this clipping color layer always purple or does it depend on the general color of the artwork?

I made a visual aid because I'm bad at explaining:

The clipping layer (purple in my soft shade tutorial) is pretty moot and only serves the purpose of allowing you to see more clearly while shading and will be deleted once your shading layer is complete. It will not be merged with the shading layer and ultimately has nothing to do with the shading. The color doesn't matter as long as it's light, you can even use white! (I just like pretty colors)
You don't have to lock the opacity before you merge the different shade layers, it's only important to lock them after the merge c:
Here's a lock opacity tut/example just in case:

I sooo look forward to getting my new PC. I want to get started in SAI..
It's sad I look forward to being able to select and area and work with it. My current PC can't handle doing that, causes major lag Can't color areas while they're still selected. Insane.
I'll come back to this when the time comes ^^ So many great tutorials with handy hints. I just have to give it a try.
